Indianapolis Deputy Police Chief Craig McCartt has since publicly said that the suspect was a 19-year-old male who previously worked at FedEx, reports AP.<\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe suspect came to the facility, and when he came there, he got out of his car and pretty quickly started some random shooting outside the facility,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=AzcCoMcbJQs\">said<\/a> McCartt in a press conference earlier on Friday. \u201cThere was no confrontation with anyone that was there. There was no disturbance, there was no argument, he just appeared to randomly start shooting. And that began in the parking lot, and then he did go into the building, into the facility for a brief period of time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Police Chief Randal Taylor said in a press conference Friday: \u201cOur MPD officers went towards danger, as they typically do, and when they arrived on the scene they found something that really no one should see. We\u2019ve all been shaken by this heinous act.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Five of the people who were injured were taken to local hospitals, and another two were treated on-site for injuries.&nbsp;FedEx, in a public letter to employees, identified the eight people who died as team members of the company.<\/p>\n<p><span>McCartt called the shooting a horrible tragedy, and said that when officers arrived late Thursday, they found \u201ca very chaotic and active\u201d scene. Several people were injured, and others were already dead, said the deputy police chief. He <\/span><span>said that the suspect appears to have died by suicide \u201cvery shortly before\u201d officers entered the FedEd ground facility building.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>He also said that law enforcement officials believe the shooting lasted a couple of minutes.<\/p>\n<p><span>Federal agents are helping local investigators, including by conducting interviews and by searching the suspect\u2019s home, said FBI special agent Paul Kenna. \u201cI can tell you that there is no further threat, and updates will continue to be shared as we learn details.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Governor Eric Holcomb (R) called the incident heartbreaking and ordered flags to be flown at half-staff for the next four days.\u201cIn times like this, words like justice and sorrow fall short in response for those senselessly taken. Our thoughts are with the families, friends, coworkers and all those affected by this terrible situation,\u201d said the governor.<\/p>\n<p>Both of Indiana\u2019s U.S. Senators have responded to news of the shooting as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe shooting at FedEx was a senseless tragedy.
