He spoke of being this real guardian around the queen. He protected her, but also made her passage through as a queen easier.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/08\/prince-harry-meghan-markle-racism-royal-family-suicidal-thoughts-oprah-interview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Meghan Markle Accuses Royals Of Racism, Says She Considered Killing Herself)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI remember seeing it personally whenever he would walk into a room,\u201d he added. \u201cHe just instantly broke the ice and put people at ease. So when the queen arrived, everyone was slightly calmer. People are terrified of the queen quite often because she is the reigning monarch. But he was a great icebreaker with a brilliant sense of humor. And he did it for the queen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/14\/royal-family-sweet-photo-queen-elizabeth-ii-prince-philip-surrounded-7-great-grandchildren\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">duke<\/a> told the BBC in 2011 he was \u201cwinding down\u201d his workload, adding he had \u201cdone\u201d his \u201cbit.\u201d It wouldn\u2019t be until 2017 that the royal would announce his official retirement, the outlet noted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe queen was very aware that when he retired, he wanted to go live in Sandringham in a small house on the estate,\u201d Bullen explained. \u201cAnd for a long time, in those early years of retirement, they didn\u2019t see each other. But that\u2019s what the duke needed. He needed that sort of space. They weren\u2019t on top of each other. And it worked for them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The queen and Prince Philip tied the knot in 1947 after meeting during Elizabeth\u2019s visit with her family to Dartmouth, or Britannia Royal Naval College, <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/royals\/prince-philip-queen-elizabeth-untold-love-story-she-never-looked-at-anyone-else\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">People<\/a> magazine reported.
