Falwell <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/08\/25\/falwell-resignation-liberty-university-president\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">resigned<\/a> his position with Liberty University in August 2020 after the relationship came to light. He <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/12\/10\/jerry-falwell-jr-drops-lawsuit-defamation-liberty-university\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">dropped<\/a> a defamation lawsuit against Liberty in December 2020.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"9.7360248447205\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Liberty University has sued Jerry Falwell Jr. for $10 million, accusing its former president and chancellor of breach of contract and fiduciary duty. The suit claims he withheld scandalous and potentially damaging information from Liberty\u2019s board. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/FsiGygpVI6\">https:\/\/t.co\/FsiGygpVI6<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The New York Times (@nytimes) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nytimes\/status\/1383095066349162513?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 16, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe actions of Falwell Jr. and Granda have injured Liberty\u2019s enrollment, impacted its donor base, disrupted its faculty, enabled the 2019 Employment Agreement that proved detrimental to Liberty\u2019s interests, and damaged Liberty\u2019s reputation,\u201d the suit claims.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1xC8827zZCODQ59Y0r6o9TRF4Y-QqYPLC\/view\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">lawsuit<\/a> alleges that Falwell \u201chas refused fully to return Liberty\u2019s Confidential Information and other personal property\u201d that he has possession of. It also claims that Falwell\u2019s failure to disclose his and his wife\u2019s personal and business relationship with Giancarlo Granda damaged the university because Liberty would not have renewed Falwell\u2019s contract in 2019 if it had known about the relationship. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/08\/25\/falwell-resignation-liberty-university-president\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Becki Falwell Confirms Affair, Denies That Husband Jerry Was Involved)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Liberty also alleges that Falwell\u2019s \u201cpersonal impairment by alcohol\u201d led him to \u201cactions and courses of conduct detrimental to the spiritual mission of liberty.\u201d The lawsuit points to an Instagram <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/08\/10\/liberty-university-selects-interim-president-while-jerry-falwell-is-on-indefinite-leave\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">photo<\/a> of Falwell and another Liberty employee in which Falwell\u2019s pants are unzipped and he holds an alcoholic beverage. Falwell then appeared on a Lynchburg, Virginia radio station to defend his behavior. The evangelical news site Pulpit and Pen <a href=\"https:\/\/pulpitandpen.org\/2020\/08\/07\/liberty-pres-jerry-falwell-jr-justifies-scandalous-yacht-pictures-whatever-whatever-it-was-all-in-good-fun\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">suggested<\/a> that Falwell was drunk during the radio call.<\/p>\n<p>Falwell served as President of Liberty from 2007 to 2020.
