Jason Chaffetz called Democrats who introduced legislation to pack the Supreme Court \u201ca bunch of crybabies\u201d during a Friday interview.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDemocrats have long had the majority there on the Court, but these five members of Congress out of 535 are asking for a radical solution that is purely political, has nothing to do with actually fixing the Court,\u201d Chaffetz said on Fox Business Network\u2019s \u201cVarney and Co.\u201d \u201cI think they\u2019re a bunch of crybabies and I don\u2019t think it\u2019s gonna happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Democrats <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/15\/democrats-joe-biden-supreme-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">introduced<\/a> a bill Thursday to place four additional justices on the Supreme Court, The Intercept <a href=\"https:\/\/theintercept.com\/2021\/04\/14\/house-and-senate-democrats-plan-bill-to-add-four-justices-to-supreme-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>. House Judiciary Committee Chair Jerry Nadler, Democratic New York Rep. Mondaire Jones and subcommittee Chair Hank Johnson are promoting the effort in the House, according to the Intercept, and Democratic Massachusetts Sen. Ed Markey is heading the charge in the Senate. <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/09\/joe-biden-jen-psaki-franklin-delano-roosevelt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <strong>(RELATED: Psaki Explains Why Biden Is Exploring Court Packing After Previously Calling It \u2018A Bonehead Idea\u2019)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>House Speaker Nancy Pelosi <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/15\/pelosi-nadler-court-packing-bill-house-floor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">voiced<\/a> her opposition to the bill Thursday and said she doesn\u2019t intend to put the measure to the House floor. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki also <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/15\/white-house-shoots-down-court-packing-for-now\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a> during a press briefing Thursday that President Joe Biden isn\u2019t going to back the legislation.<\/p>\n<p>Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/09\/joe-biden-jen-psaki-franklin-delano-roosevelt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">signed<\/a> an executive order April 9 to form a commission designed to analyze multiple elements of the Court, including it\u2019s \u201cmembership and size,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2021\/04\/09\/president-biden-to-sign-executive-order-creating-the-presidential-commission-on-the-supreme-court-of-the-united-states\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to a White House press release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s a plea of desperation, I think they\u2019re seeking a political remedy, there is not something in principle that is wrong with the Supreme Court other than the Democrats\u2019 wish that Donald Trump had lost and that he didn\u2019t get two picks on the Supreme Court,\u201d Chaffetz said.<\/p>\n<p>Chaffetz warned that if the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/06\/court-packing-judges-reconciliation-byrd-rule-merely-incidental\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">filibuster<\/a> is abolished, measures such as making Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico states and other Court related initiatives would be \u201cback on the table.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I don\u2019t think they\u2019re gonna be able to break that down, I hope not,\u201d Chaffetz said.<\/p>\n<p>Chaffetz said that Biden set high expectations when he created the Supreme Court commission and Democrats may return with other proposals, such as implementing \u201cterm limits or some other reconfiguration of the courts in place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that is realistic, it scares me because I don\u2019t think the Court is broken, but I think that may be the consequence,\u201d Chaffetz said. \u201cReach for the moon and then settle for something that\u2019s a lot less and then it appears reasonable, even though from the starting point of today, I think its unreasonable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
