Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) will remain on the House Judiciary Committee and is \u201cinnocent until proven guilty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During a press briefing on Thursday, the Republican said he personally met with the Florida lawmaker who professed his innocence. Gaetz has been accused of misusing campaign funds to finance travel for women.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMatt Gaetz says he is innocent, there\u2019s an investigation going on and I\u2019ll let the investigation take care of itself before I take any action,\u201d McCarthy asserted.<\/p>\n<p>Republican Party rules require lawmakers to resign committee assignments when charged with felonies that carry at least a two-year sentence and McCarthy pointed out Gaetz has yet to be charged with any crime.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMatt Gaetz is is the same as any American, he\u2019s innocent until proven guilty,\u201d continued the House minority leader. \u201cThere\u2019s no charges against him yet; if a charge comes forward, it would be dealt with at that time.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I won&#8217;t be intimidated by the lying media.<\/p>\n<p>I won&#8217;t be extorted by a former DOJ official and the crooks he is working with. <\/p>\n<p>The truth will prevail.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Rep.
