The findings were reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/health-shots\/2021\/04\/15\/987164563\/scientists-create-early-embryos-that-are-part-human-part-monkey?utm_source=twitter.com&amp;utm_term=nprnews&amp;utm_campaign=npr&amp;utm_medium=social\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NPR<\/a> in a piece published Thursday. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2010\/04\/15\/uk-scientists-create-%e2%80%98designer-embryos%e2%80%99-with-three-people%e2%80%99s-dna\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: UK Scientists Create \u2018Designer Embryos\u2019 With Three People\u2019s DNA)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe demand for that is much higher than the supply,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"12.182456140351\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">For the first time, U.S. and Chinese scientists have created embryos that are part human, part monkey, in an effort to find new ways to produce organs for transplants.<\/p>\n<p>But some ethicists worry about how such research could go wrong.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/X0yyxnLRnP\">https:\/\/t.co\/X0yyxnLRnP<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 NPR (@NPR) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NPR\/status\/1382714457856618501?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 15, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The team of scientist injected 25 cells known as induced pluripotent stem cells from humans into macaque <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/02\/25\/police-raid-firearms-cocaine-monkey\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">monkey<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2017\/07\/27\/scientists-create-first-genetically-engineered-human-embryos-in-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">embryos<\/a>, the outlet noted. After just one day, researchers reported being able to detect human cells growing in 132 of the embryos and could study them for up to 19 days. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2018\/12\/27\/chris-brown-criminal-charges-pet-monkey\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Chris Brown Reportedly Facing Criminal Charges Over His Pet Monkey)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t see this type of research being ethically problematic,\u201d Insoo Hyun, a bioethicist at Case Western Reserve University and Harvard University added. \u201cIt\u2019s aimed at lofty humanitarian goals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But the research is raising a whole host of questions as to whether this should be done.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy first question is: Why?\u201d Kirstin Matthews, a fellow for science and technology at Rice University\u2019s Baker Institute said. \u201cI think the public is going to be concerned, and I am as well, that we\u2019re just kind of pushing forward with science without having a proper conversation about what we should or should not do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShould it be regulated as human because it has a significant proportion of human cells in it?\u201d she added. \u201cOr should it be regulated just as an animal? Or something else? At what point are you taking something and using it for organs when it actually is starting to think and have logic?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNobody really wants monkeys walking around with human eggs and human sperm inside them,\u201d Hank Greely, a Stanford University bioethicist who co-wrote an article in the same issue of the journal that critiques the line of research explained. \u201cBecause if a monkey with human sperm meets a monkey with human eggs, nobody wants a human embryo inside a monkey\u2019s uterus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think we\u2019re on the edge of beyond the Planet of the Apes,\u201d he added. \u201cI think rogue scientists are few and far between. But they\u2019re not zero.
