Harris says about migrant surge at the border, adding she plans to travel to Mexico and Guatemala.  <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Wpn0Nh7Apr\">https:\/\/t.co\/Wpn0Nh7Apr<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/HgDuvdD8kC\">pic.twitter.com\/HgDuvdD8kC<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 This Week (@ThisWeekABC) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ThisWeekABC\/status\/1382344936134213632?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 14, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>At the end of last month, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/kamala-harris-has-no-immediate-plans-to-visit-border-will-focus-on-diplomacy-amid-migrant-crisis\">The Daily Wire<\/a> reported that Harris had no plans to visit the United States-Mexico border after President Joe Biden gave her the job of handling what became known as the \u201cchild migrant crisis.\u201d Harris instead planned to use \u201cdiplomacy\u201d to handle the issue.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/kamala-harris-has-no-immediate-plans-to-visit-border-will-focus-on-diplomacy-amid-migrant-crisis\">The Daily Wire<\/a> reported:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"30\">\n<p><em>Like her boss, President Joe Biden, Harris has no plans to see the situation on the southern border firsthand.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cVice President Kamala Harris won\u2019t be on the ground at the Southwest border anytime soon as she leads efforts to address a rise in migrants trying to enter the country,\u201d The Associated Press reported. \u201cHarris has no plans to visit the U.S.-Mexico border region \u2018in the near future,\u2019 spokeswoman Symone Sanders said Friday.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe vice president is not doing the border,\u201d Sanders said.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Instead, Sanders added, Harris will receive briefings from Mexican and Central American officials, though, as of last Friday, she had not met with anyone about the issue.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cYou can expect she will be speaking with leaders from the region in the near future,\u201d Sanders said.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Earlier this month, Harris notably went to California without visiting the border. Instead, the vice president decided to join Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom at a water treatment facility where she gave a short speech on \u201cwater equity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/kamala-harris-in-charge-of-border-crisis-visits-water-plant-near-san-francisco-vaccine-site-in-chicago\">The Daily Wire<\/a> reported:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"15\">\n<p><em>Although Harris did not discuss the child migrant crisis, the federal government is considering at least two more temporary detention facilities inside the state of California to hold the ever-increasing number of unaccompanied minors being captured at the United States-Mexico border, also according to the L.A. Times. The situation is so dire that California\u2019s state government is polling foster families, looking for extra beds, per Fox News.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Some California families report they are being asked to house as many as 26 migrant children at a time.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Harris again clarified on Wednesday that she will be in charge of looking into the root issues of migration, while Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas will lead efforts at the United States border with Mexico. She said that it is important to not only address the \u201csymptoms\u201d of the problem, but also the causes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will not be obvious overnight,\u201d Harris said. \u201cThe work we have to do is going to require a commitment that is continuous that we institutionalize with our partners, and that is the work that I am prepared to do which is to begin that process of meaningful work knowing that we\u2019re going to have to have a long term strategy and it will take some time to see the benefits of that work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2021\/04\/08\/985296354\/almost-19-000-migrant-children-stopped-at-u-s-border-in-march-most-ever-in-a-mon\">NPR<\/a> reporting, the number of migrants met at the U.S.-Mexico border last month was the highest in at least 15 years as U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents took in almost 172,000 people.<\/p>\n<p><i><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
