The measure was approved by a 3-2 vote.<\/p>\n<p>Pico Rivera city councilman Andrew Lara said at the meeting that the vote couldn\u2019t be painted as something from \u201cWhite Republicans,\u201d which has been the preferred narrative against Santa Clarita and Beverly Hills (though they are not Republican cities by a longshot). Lara said he was a Democrat.<\/p>\n<p>Lara also said he was offended by the suggestion from Gasc\u00f3n\u2019s representative that the unpopular directives from the D.A. were \u201cthe people\u2019s directives\u201d because he won the election in 2020. Lara, according to Fox 11, noted that voters also said they wanted to keep the death penalty, adding that he believes people who kill cops should be sentenced to death.<\/p>\n<p>Fox 11 reported that La Mirada, California, is also considering a vote of no confidence in Gasc\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>As The Daily Wire has previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/new-soros-backed-l-a-county-d-a-issues-directive-to-not-prosecute-numerous-crimes-eliminates-bail\">reported<\/a>, upon entering office, Gasc\u00f3n issued a set of directives aimed at \u201cgetting rid of cash bail, declining prosecutions for numerous misdemeanor crimes, and banning prosecutors from seeking enhanced prison sentences.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The directives were met with an immediate backlash, leading Gasc\u00f3n to change some of the policies just weeks after announcing them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNearly all of the concerns I have heard center around my policy of ending all enhancements,\u201d Gasc\u00f3n wrote in an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/da.lacounty.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/pdf\/DA-message-121920.pdf\">open letter<\/a>&nbsp;in mid-December. \u201cTo be responsive to your input, I have decided to make some adjustments to my initial directives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere aggravating factors exist I believe existing sentencing schemes provide sufficient latitude to prosecutors to seek higher sentences, but some victims remain concerned and I want you to know that we are listening,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n<p>From The Daily Wire\u2019s Jeff Cawood:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"12.582329317269\">\n<p><em>Gasc\u00f3n did not campaign on eliminating all sentencing enhancements, and his plan to do so, along with other elements of his progressive agenda, was met with immediate resistance. The new directives sparked a revolt from local law enforcement groups and several deputy district attorneys within Gasc\u00f3n\u2019s office. Victims\u2019 families and prosecutors&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxla.com\/news\/da-gascons-policy-changes-include-dismissing-special-charges-against-accused-cop-killer\">connected<\/a>&nbsp;with media outlets, and their&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/abc7.com\/george-gascon-jon-hatami-attorney-lada-los-angeles-county-district\/8805356\/\">stories<\/a>&nbsp;helped create a plethora of new critics, many of whom were generally quiet during the election.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Even after his partial reversal, many have demanded he resign. A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/george-gascon-l-a-s-new-progressive-d-a-becomes-target-of-recall-effort\">recall effort<\/a> is currently underway, with the L.A. County sheriff <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/los-angeles-county-sheriff-supports-recall-effort-against-d-a-gascon\">supporting the effort<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Gasc\u00f3n continues to issue unpopular directives, most recently downsizing his office\u2019s Hardcore Gang Unit and Major Narcotics Unit, The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/l-a-county-d-a-gascon-downsizes-hardcore-gang-and-major-narcotics-units-report\">reported<\/a>.
