According to slides posted by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realchrisrufo\/status\/1382090908284297219\"><span>City Journal<\/span><\/a><span> contributor Christopher Rufo, the presentation began with a \u201cland acknowledgment.\u201d Land acknowledgments are admissions that teaching is taking place on land that was conquered by Americans, though once belonged to Native Americans.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Santa Clara land acknowledgment claims that the schools \u201coccupy the unceded territory of the Muwekma Ohlone Nation.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Part of the presentation examined the alleged \u201croots of settler colonialism.\u201d The presenter, Jorge Pacheco, who is also an advisor for the state\u2019s ethnic studies curriculum, blamed colonialism on oppressive white males who allegedly used \u201cgenocide, private property, God\/religion, classism, patriarchy, and white supremacy\u201d to create the United States.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The presentation also encouraged teachers to \u201cinfer the imperialist motives\u201d of Christopher Columbus to disparage America writ large.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In his presentation, Pacheco claimed that the district\u2019s guidelines and expectations were considered \u201cbarriers\u201d to ethnic studies. He also encouraged teachers to be careful about what they say in virtual classrooms as parents are considered barriers as well.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201c[We] have to be extra careful about what is being said, since we can\u2019t just say something controversial now that we\u2019re in people\u2019s homes. Parents can take out of context or see what materials are being used so need to be careful of what they see,\u201d Pacheco wrote.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to the presentation materials, Pacheco pushed ethnic studies seemingly to indoctrinate children and lead them to activism.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe kids become a subject and you are intending to awaken them to the oppression that they aren\u2019t aware of but that they are actively participating in,\u201d Pacheco wrote. \u201cThen how to lead to social change.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Teachers were also encouraged to read \u201cPedagogy of the Oppressed\u201d by Paulo Freire, which argues that oppressed people can only regain humanity by fighting for liberation with other oppressed people. The book was initially written for oppressed people living in Brazil in 1968, though American education institutions have reconstructed the lessons to fit the current racial climate.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Pacheco also dubbed colonialism a \u201cparasitic system\u201d that&nbsp; \u201ctakes land and converts to money to feed into those in power.\u201d The example that he used was English speakers translating the name Jorge to George.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Much of the language used throughout the presentation mirrors the words of Karl Marx and Marxism\u2019s broader \u201cconflict theory.\u201d The presentation used words such as \u201coppressor, oppressed, praxis\u201d and more.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The presentation was made after California introduced a new \u201cethnic studies curriculum.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Daily Wire <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/californias-proposed-ethnic-studies-curriculum-calls-for-stronger-connection-to-social-justice-movment\"><span>reported<\/span><\/a><span>:&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"14\">\n<p><i><span>California has introduced a new \u201cethnic studies\u201d curriculum that is being promoted by a man who believes that one way to rectify colonialism is to support a \u201ccounter-genocide\u201d of \u201cwhite Christians.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>California released a 48-page \u201cEthnic Studies Curriculum Model\u201d that calls on students to \u201cchallenge racist, bigoted, discriminatory, imperialist\/colonial beliefs and practices on multiple levels.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><i><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
