Conversely, $174 billion has been marked for \u201celectric vehicles,\u201d $400 billion for the \u201ccaretaking economy,\u201d and $213 billion for \u201caffordable and sustainable housing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg attempted to apply a racial justification, claiming that <\/span><span>racism is \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/buttigieg-claims-racism-is-physically-built-into-u-s-interstate-system\"><span>physically built<\/span><\/a><span>\u201d into parts of the U.S. highway system.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The latest example of retrospective justification of the apparent inclusion of non-infrastructure items in an infrastructure plan was provided by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), the chairman of the Senate Budget Committee.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cInfrastructure is about education, about getting children healthily in school with separation, sanitation, ventilation. It\u2019s about investments in housing as well,\u201d Pelosi <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/yCr9iTaBAmU\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span> on CBS\u2019 \u201cFace the Nation.\u201d \u201cOverwhelmingly, this bill is about infrastructure in the traditional sense of the word.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe also think that infrastructure\u2014 there\u2019s a need for workforce development in order to have the workforce fully participate in how we go forward and childcare so that women can be involved in that as well,\u201d she added. \u201cSo it\u2019s physical infrastructure. It\u2019s also human infrastructure that is involved.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Sanders also attempted to broaden the definition of infrastructure, referencing \u201chuman infrastructure.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe\u2019ve got to take a broad look at what infrastructure means, human infrastructure for ordinary people,\u201d Sanders told MSNBC.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"10.527607361963\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We need to broaden our definition of infrastructure. It is, of course, bricks and mortar. But it is also human infrastructure. Now is the time to create millions of jobs addressing the needs of the working class. You\u2019ve got a half a million people in this country who are homeless. You\u2019ve got 19 million households who are spending 50% of their limited incomes on housing. We need to build housing,\u201d Sanders continued. \u201cAnd by the way, when you deal with housing, you create jobs.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWhen I talk about infrastructure, it means if a worker, a mom and dad are going to work, they have the right to know that their kids are in decent childcare. That\u2019s infrastructure,\u201d Sanders said. \u201cInfrastructure is having the best-educated workforce in the world. That means all of our kids should have the ability to get a higher education, not leave school deeply in debt.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Sanders continued to argue that infrastructure \u201cmeans that we need a healthy society. Our life expectancy is 40th in the world because we are the only major country not to guarantee health care to all people,\u201d Sanders added. \u201cAnd so, I think as a nation we\u2019ve got to take a very broad look at what we mean by infrastructure, it\u2019s physical infrastructure, obviously, bricks and mortar.
