But it\u2019s happening in Canada. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/jYs8E1oXGh\">pic.twitter.com\/jYs8E1oXGh<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ezra Levant \ud83c\udf41 (@ezralevant) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ezralevant\/status\/1381361461189091333?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 11, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Sheila Gunn Reid, a journalist with Rebel News who has spent two months with the GraceLife congregation as they have defied the provincial lockdowns on houses of worship, explained to The Daily Wire that the agitation was not because of anyone at the church.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I can tell you is that most of the congregation was with Pastor Coates today, who was holding services at an undisclosed location off-site to avoid any trouble,\u201d she said. \u201cFor them, this is not about a building, it\u2019s about being able to gather in-person. That\u2019s why they got in trouble in the first place for not limiting the congregation for 15% of fire code capacity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>GraceLife Church first made international headlines in February when its pastor, James Coates, was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/canadian-pastor-held-in-solitary-confinement-after-defying-covid-19-order\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">arrested<\/a> and jailed for more than a month after holding church services in defiance of Alberta\u2019s Public Health Order, which limited congregations to 15% capacity.<\/p>\n<p>The RCMP repeatedly flagged GraceLife for not abiding by the order and later slapped the church with more charges when they continued to hold services during their pastor\u2019s imprisonment.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding rumors that circulated claiming that the fence had been pulled down by people attempting to make the church look bad, Reid tweeted, \u201cI&nbsp;was there when the fence came down at GraceLife. It wasn\u2019t a false flag. It wasn\u2019t done by the church. It was outside agitators that did it against the wishes of congregation who wisely met elsewhere. The congregation could have pulled it down at any time.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"12.414790996785\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I was there when the fence came down at GraceLife. <\/p>\n<p>It wasn&#8217;t a false flag. These people are sympathetic to the church, but not at all sanctioned by the church. As the fence was coming down, people I know from my many Sunday services with GraceLife were chanting to put the fence back up. Some young men from that side ran up and helped the police rebuild the fence. Then the two opposed groups engaged in some \u2018rigorous debate.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reid also posted video of a protest group leader praying for their government leaders and the RCMP who had shut their church down. \u201cFather, I pray that this meeting would honor and glorify you, that we would honor and glorify our leaders, that we would honor and glorify the RCMP,\u201d he prayed in part. \u201cBut Father, I pray that you would transform the hearts and the lives of each one of us, of our leaders, and of the RCMP.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"7.9381443298969\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The media will show you chaos and bloodlust at the church protest. <\/p>\n<p>This is the reality. That\u2019s why Pastor Coates turned himself in February 16 for 35 days in maximum security custody.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"10.527607361963\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">A church in Edmonton, Canada wouldn\u2019t obey politicians and lock its doors. So they jailed the pastor for 35 days. The church still wouldn\u2019t close. So police raided it, turned it into an armed garrison &amp; occupied it. And still the Christians come. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/yNZRUXXudl\">pic.twitter.com\/yNZRUXXudl<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ezra Levant \ud83c\udf41 (@ezralevant) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ezralevant\/status\/1381319356265676805?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 11, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/exclusive-pastor-and-lawyer-defiant-after-canadian-police-raid-barricade-church-at-dawn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>, Coates was imprisoned for more than a month in a maximum security facility in Edmonton after his church continued to meet in defiance of the provincial health order. The pastor&nbsp;said fellow prisoners were aware of his situation and came to him <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/it-was-precious-to-me-canadian-pastor-jailed-for-holding-church-services-recounts-touching-moment-he-was-freed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">seeking spiritual advice<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>John Carpay, who is serving as legal counsel for Coates and his church, recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/exclusive-pastor-and-lawyer-defiant-after-canadian-police-raid-barricade-church-at-dawn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">spoke<\/a> to The Daily Wire about his client\u2019s case, describing it as&nbsp;a fight for the \u201cfundamental rights and freedoms\u201d of the Western world.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement provided to The Daily Wire, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jccf.ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">law firm<\/a> representing Coates and GraceLife said in part:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"12\">\n<p><em>Grace Life Church has no control of our Church or grounds at this time. The Church grounds are fully under the responsibility and control of the RCMP and Alberta Health Services. The closing of the Grace Life facility has understandably resulted in significant public outrage and caused even larger crowds to gather in one place. Albertans have a constitutional right to assemble, associate, and worship.
