Greg Abbott (TX) blasted President Joe Biden on Sunday over forthcoming executive actions to further restrict gun rights, blasting the Biden announcement as nothing more than a \u201cshow\u201d that will not address crime.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[I]f&nbsp;the president wanted to do something more than show\u2026if the president really wanted to do something substantively, what he really could do by executive order is to eliminate the backlog of complaints that have already been filed about gun crimes that have taken place,\u201d Abbott said on Fox News airwaves, The Hill <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/sunday-talk-shows\/547574-texas-governor-biden-actions-on-guns-just-show\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Texas governor emphasized his steadfast support for citizens\u2019 Second Amendment rights, especially \u201cat a time when the United States government and other governments are doing less to defend our fellow Americans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that there is no acceptable way that a president by executive order can infringe upon Second Amendment rights or alter Second Amendment rights,\u201d Abbott said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTexans and Americans know they need their Second Amendment rights to defend themselves at a time when the United States government and other governments are doing less to defend our fellow Americans, and that is exactly why we should not have any further limitations of our Second Amendment rights,\u201d the Republican added.<\/p>\n<p>Biden on Wednesday <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/gun-rights-group-blasts-biden-for-forthcoming-tyrannical-gun-orders-well-spare-no-expense-to-defeat-you\">previewed<\/a> six forthcoming \u201cactions\u201d in relation to his expected gun control executive orders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Biden is reiterating his call for Congress to pass legislation to reduce gun violence,\u201d the White House <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2021\/04\/07\/fact-sheet-biden-harris-administration-announces-initial-actions-to-address-the-gun-violence-public-health-epidemic\/\">said<\/a> in a statement. \u201cLast month, a bipartisan coalition in the House passed two bills to close loopholes in the gun background check system. Congress should close those loopholes and go further, including by closing \u2018boyfriend\u2019 and stalking loopholes that currently allow people found by the courts to be abusers to possess firearms, banning assault weapons and high capacity magazines, repealing gun manufacturers\u2019 immunity from liability, and investing in evidence-based community violence interventions. Congress should also pass an appropriate national \u2018red flag\u2019 law, as well as legislation incentivizing states to pass \u2018red flag\u2019 laws of their own.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut this Administration will not wait for Congress to act to take its own steps \u2013 fully within the Administration\u2019s authority and the Second Amendment \u2013 to save lives,\u201d the Biden administration said, announcing the six new gun control actions, including crackdowns on so-called \u201cghost guns\u201d and boosting \u201cred flags\u201d laws.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of the Biden announcement, Abbott boasted of legislation that would make Texas a \u201cSecond Amendment Sanctuary State,\u201d potentially offering Texans protection from Biden action cracking down on gun rights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is what I\u2019m seeking for Texas\u2014a law to defy any new federal gun control laws. It will make Texas a Second Amendment Sanctuary State. Legislation is moving in the Texas House and Senate. I look forward to signing it,\u201d Abbott <a href=\"https:\/\/spectrumlocalnews.com\/tx\/san-antonio\/news\/2021\/04\/08\/gov--abbott-again-touts--second-amendment-sanctuary-state--legislation-as-biden-to-unveil-action-on-guns-\">said<\/a> in a tweet,&nbsp;referencing House Bill 2622.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTexas state agencies and other political subdivisions would be prohibited from enforcing or providing assistance to federal agencies on any new federal laws, orders, rules or regulations on firearms, firearm accessories, or ammunition inside the state,\u201d says a <a href=\"https:\/\/spectrumlocalnews.com\/tx\/san-antonio\/news\/2021\/04\/08\/gov--abbott-again-touts--second-amendment-sanctuary-state--legislation-as-biden-to-unveil-action-on-guns-\">release<\/a> from Republican Tex&nbsp;Rep. Justin Holland, who introduced the bill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI look forward to working with Senator Springer and Governor Abbott on passing the Second Amendment Sanctuary State Act this legislative session,\u201d he wrote. \u201cNow is the time to step up and protect our 2nd Amendment rights in Texas. We can\u2019t rely on the Federal Government to lead on this issue and in reality \u2013 they will do vastly more harm than good for gun rights.
