The York County Coroner\u2019s Office announced they contacted Boston University on Friday to conduct the study of 32-year-old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/31223923\/brain-phillip-adams-former-nfl-player-killed-five-examined-cte\">Phillip Adams\u2019 brain<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the concerns with football, generally, is a condition called CTE \u2014 the fancy term is chronic traumatic encephalopathy,\u201d Sports Medicine Specialist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=L5J8s6c5b4o\">Dr. David Geier<\/a> stated. \u201cAnd it\u2019s not always full-blown concussions, it\u2019s the microscopic impacts that occur on every football play; the blocking at the line and the tackling. If that happens over years and years and years, in a certain percentage of football players that can lead to this brain condition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last week, officers said Adams forced his way into the home of Dr. Robert Lesslie. He proceeded to fire as many as 20 shots, killing Lesslie, his wife and two grandchildren.<\/p>\n<p>Two air conditioning techs working at the home were also shot. One was killed while the other remained in critical condition until he <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/04\/10\/sole-survivor-of-south-carolina-shooting-by-phillip-adams-dies\/\">succumbed<\/a> to his injuries.<\/p>\n<p>According to authorities, investigators hadn\u2019t figured out a possible motive.<\/p>\n<p>Adams\u2019 father blames football for the cause of his actions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, I can say that he was a good kid,\u201d Alonzo Adams, Phillip\u2019s father, stated. \u201cI think the football messed him up. I know they were good folks down there. I don\u2019t know what happened, but we are gonna keep them in our prayers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Adams played six seasons on various teams throughout his career in the NFL. The degenerative brain disease results in symptoms such as impulsive and reckless behavior or mood swings.
