On Friday, Biden signed an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oann.com\/biden-to-sign-executive-order-creating-court-packing-commission\/\">executive order<\/a>, which created a 36 member commission to examine the Supreme Court. The panel of legal experts and practitioners will be tasked with assessing the effects of court-packing on the federal government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey will also be looking at the Court\u2019s role in the constitutional system, the length of service and turnover of justices on the Court, the membership and size of the Court and the Court\u2019s case selection, rules and practices,\u201d White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said. \u201cAnd the makeup of this commission, which was vital for [Biden], is there are progressives on the Court [and] there are conservatives on the Court.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Democrats ramped up calls to expand the Court during the Trump administration after the President pushed three justices through the confirmation process. However, Republicans have come out against court-packing and Biden\u2019s move towards the policy.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) believes Biden has made an empty gesture. He also said Biden doesn\u2019t even have support from Democrats in Congress to add more justices to the bench.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton gave a more dire assessment of the commission, saying this is the first step in the left\u2019s plan to destroy our country.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Get ready for the first recommendation from this \u201cbipartisan\u201d commission to be court packing. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) said. \u201cThat\u2019s not the way our system should work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, Clinton-appointed Justice Stephen Breyer urged progressives to roll back their position on court-packing. Breyer warned that packing the Court would turn justices into \u201cjunior league politicians,\u201d not jurists.<\/p>\n<p>He stressed, the High Court being stacked with Republican-appointed justices should not worry Democrats.
