Ron DeSantis and four medical experts, including one former White House adviser, because the experts questioned the efficacy of masks for children.<\/p>\n<p>YouTube <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aier.org\/article\/youtube-censors-florida-governor-desantis-and-his-science-advisors\/\">pulled<\/a> the video on Wednesday and replaced it with a message saying, \u201cthis video has been removed for violating YouTube\u2019s Community Guidelines,\u201d as well as a link to the platform\u2019s guidelines. The video and transcript of the deleted post may be viewed in their entirety at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aier.org\/article\/great-barrington-declaration-scientists-with-gov-desantis-in-florida\/\">American Institute for Economic Research<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, DeSantis held a roundtable discussion with Harvard University professor Dr. Martin Kulldorff, Oxford University epidemiologist Dr. Sunetra Gupta, Stanford University physician and epidemiologist Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, and Stanford professor Dr. Scott Atlas. DeSantis moderated a discussion evaluating the global response to the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>YouTube pulled the video, originally posted by AIER, over the experts\u2019 claims made about the efficacy of children wearing masks in schools to combat COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYouTube has clear policies around <a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/youtube\/answer\/9891785\">COVID-19 medical misinformation<\/a> to support the health and safety of our users. We removed AIER\u2019s video because it included content that contradicts the consensus of local and global health authorities regarding the efficacy of masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19,\u201d YouTube spokeswoman Elena Hernandez told The Daily Wire in a statement. \u201cWe allow videos that otherwise violate our policies to remain on the platform if they contain sufficient <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.youtube\/inside-youtube\/look-how-we-treat-educational-documentary-scientific-and-artistic-content-youtube\/\">educational, documentary, scientific, or artistic context<\/a>. Our policies apply to everyone, and focus on content regardless of the speaker or channel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to YouTube, the doctors and DeSantis violated the platform\u2019s guidelines when they said that masks should not be mandated for children and questioned claims that such measures are necessary to reopen schools.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChildren should not wear face masks, no. They don\u2019t need it for their own protection and they don\u2019t need it for protecting other people, either,\u201d Kulldorff said in one exchange highlighted by YouTube.<\/p>\n<p>In another highlighted clip, Bhattacharya said, \u201cChildren develop by watching other people, and I think it is developmentally inappropriate and it just doesn\u2019t help on the disease spread. I think it\u2019s absolutely not the right thing to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Atlas said, \u201cI think that the masks in schools, there\u2019s no scientific rationale or logic to have children wear masks in schools.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/q-a-detail\/q-a-children-and-masks-related-to-covid-19\">WHO guidance<\/a>, children ages 5 and under do not need to wear a mask \u201cbased on the safety and overall interest of the child and the capacity to appropriately use a mask with minimal assistance.\u201d Children ages 6 to 11 may be required to wear a mask in certain conditions, such as if the child is in an area of \u201cwidespread transmission\u201d and if the child can be properly supervised by an adult.<\/p>\n<p>According to the WHO, \u201cchildren aged 12 and over should wear a mask under the same conditions as adults, in particular when they cannot guarantee at least a 1-metre distance from others and there is widespread transmission in the area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/cdc-schools-can-reopen-safely-without-vaccinating-teachers-against-covid-19\">CDC: Schools Can Reopen Safely Without Vaccinating Teachers Against COVID-19<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
