Let\u2019s debunk some of the most egregious claims Biden made during his short statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Biden parrots the \u201cgun show loophole\u201d lie<\/b><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese bills, one, require background checks for anyone purchasing a gun at a gun show, or an online sale,\u201d Biden said, which triggered applause from the audience.<\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cMost people don\u2019t know it, you walk into a store and you buy a gun, you have a background check. But you go to a gun show, you can buy whatever you want, and no background check.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"7.5316455696203\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Joe Biden lies, claiming that you can buy a gun at a gun show without a background check. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/7IhUJWHrbP\">pic.twitter.com\/7IhUJWHrbP<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ian Haworth (@ighaworth) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ighaworth\/status\/1380202747316822017?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 8, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>This is one of the most prevalent and misleading falsehoods promulgated by the Left when it comes to gun control. Federally licensed gun sellers are required, by law, to run background checks on all firearm purchases, whether at a gun show or in their gun store.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Unlicensed private individuals are <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politifact.com\/article\/2016\/jan\/07\/politifact-sheet-3-things-know-about-gun-show-loop\/\"><span>permitted<\/span><\/a><span> to sell guns without running a background check, but this is the case regardless of their location.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Biden falsely claims that \u201chis\u201d assault weapon and high-capacity magazine ban reduced mass shootings<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI know this has been a hobby horse of mine for a long time. Got it done once,\u201d Biden said. \u201cWe should also ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines in this country.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cFor that 10 years we had it done, the number of mass shootings actually went down,\u201d Biden claimed.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"8.3613445378151\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Biden claims that \u201cFor that 10 years we had [assault weapon and high-capacity magazine ban] done, the number of mass shootings actually went down.\u201d This is not true. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/3oecOFNv07\">pic.twitter.com\/3oecOFNv07<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ian Haworth (@ighaworth) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ighaworth\/status\/1380204341739589635?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 8, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>As Katie Pavlich wrote in March 2021 for Townhall in a piece titled \u201cFact Check the Left: Did a Clinton Era Gun Ban \u2018Bring Down Mass Killings\u2019 as Biden Claims?\u201d this is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/townhall.com\/tipsheet\/katiepavlich\/2021\/03\/23\/fact-check-the-left-did-a-clinton-era-gun-ban-reduce-mass-shooting-as-biden-claims-n2586755\"><span>simply false<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Not only is this period too small a sample size to reach any statistically significant conclusions, but the average number of mass shootings per year before and during the \u201cAssault Weapons Ban\u201d <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/tcf.org\/content\/commentary\/the-assault-weapons-ban-did-it-curtail-mass-shootings\/?session=1\"><span>didn\u2019t change<\/span><\/a>, staying at<span>&nbsp;1.5 events per year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Biden argues that stabilizing braces make weapons more lethal<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe want to treat pistols, modified with stabilizing braces, with the seriousness they deserve,\u201d Biden said. \u201cA stabilizing brace [\u2026] essentially makes that pistol a hell of a lot more accurate and a mini-rifle. As a result, it\u2019s more lethal. Effectively, turning it into a short-barreled rifle.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThat\u2019s what the alleged shooter in Boulder appears to have done,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"9.3372093023256\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Joe Biden just claimed adding a &#8220;stabilizing brace&#8221; to an AR-pistol makes it &#8220;more lethal.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This is literally not true and one of the most insane things I&#8217;ve ever heard on the topic of guns. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/yw8RjBTNbv\">pic.twitter.com\/yw8RjBTNbv<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Caleb Hull (@CalebJHull) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CalebJHull\/status\/1380192388791033871?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 8, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>The lethality of the firearm is the key part here, given that the stability of the gun after being fired (which is the purpose of the <\/span><i><span>stabilizing <\/span><\/i><span>brace) has no effective impact on the bullet fired or its deadliness.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Biden lies, saying that gun violence is an epidemic<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cGun violence in this country is an epidemic,\u201d Biden claimed. \u201cLet me say it again. Gun violence in this country is an epidemic.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"6.8198757763975\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Pres. Biden: \u2018Gun violence in this country is an epidemic and international embarrassment\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/CmaO1TlZmz\">pic.twitter.com\/CmaO1TlZmz<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 NowThis (@nowthisnews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nowthisnews\/status\/1380194474970685440?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 8, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>While gun violence certainly exists, the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/debunking-the-myth-of-americas-unique-gun-problem\"><span>truth<\/span><\/a><span> is that \u201c<\/span><span>as gun ownership has increased, the rate of firearm homicides has steadily declined since a brief spike in the early 1990s.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Joe Biden makes numerous false claims about the U.S. Constitution<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cBut no amendment, no amendment to the Constitution is absolute.\u201d Biden said. \u201cYou can\u2019t yell \u2018fire\u2019 in a crowded movie theater and call it freedom of speech.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This claim is routinely parroted by members of the Left while attempting to pick holes in the First and Second Amendments. Unfortunately for them, it\u2019s a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/debunking-shouting-fire-in-a-crowded-theater-once-and-for-all\"><span>false claim<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cFrom the very beginning, you couldn\u2019t own any weapon you wanted to own. From the very beginning of the Second Amendment existed, certain people weren\u2019t allowed to have weapons.
