Biden also withdrew the United States from the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2021\/01\/28\/biden-trump-anti-abortion-rules-463347\"><span>Geneva Consensus Declaration<\/span><\/a><span> \u2014 a statement from several countries asserting that \u201cthere is no international right to abortion, nor any international obligation on the part of States to finance or facilitate abortion.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>His ultimate <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/biden-reiterates-promise-to-make-roe-v-wade-the-law-of-the-land\/\"><span>intention<\/span><\/a><span> is to make <\/span><i><span>Roe v. Wade<\/span><\/i><span> \u2014 the 1973 Supreme Court opinion that justified the legality of abortion across the United States \u2014 the \u201claw of the land.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>State lawmakers are now launching their responses. As pro-life nonprofit <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/democratic-presidents-not-cause-declines-abortion-rate\/\"><span>Live Action<\/span><\/a><span> details, Republican-led states typically increase their fervor in passing pro-life laws under Democratic presidents.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Rather than the typical late-term abortion <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/florida-pain-capable-late-term-abortions\/\"><span>bans<\/span><\/a><span> and \u201cheartbeat <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/02\/18\/politics\/south-carolina-abortion\/index.html\"><span>bills<\/span><\/a><span>,\u201d some states are opting for more unorthodox approaches for protecting the unborn. Here are five examples.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Complete and total ban \u2014 Arizona<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>Republican state legislators in Arizona are pursuing a bill to abolish and criminalize abortion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.azleg.gov\/legtext\/55leg\/1R\/bills\/HB2650P.pdf\"><span>Equal Opportunity for Life Act<\/span><\/a><span> \u2014 unveiled by state Rep. Walt Blackman on the 48th anniversary of <\/span><i><span>Roe v. Wade<\/span><\/i><span> \u2014 would define an \u201cunborn child in the womb at any state of development\u201d as a \u201cperson\u201d under state law. In addition to opening the door for state officials to prosecute mothers for murder, the bill would ban the use of taxpayer dollars for abortion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe question now is whether Americans, regardless of age, size or abilities, will be afforded an equal opportunity to enjoy the inalienable right to life,\u201d explained Rep. Blackman, stating that his bill ensures \u201cfull and equal protection for Arizona citizens, both before and after birth.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>House Majority Leader Ben Toma (R-AZ) and House Majority Whip Leo Biasiucci (R-AZ) are co-sponsoring the legislation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Pro-abortion activists in Arizona immediately denounced the bill.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt is no coincidence that on the 48th anniversary of Roe v. Wade and two days after the inauguration of a pro-reproductive rights administration that far-right conservatives of the Arizona Legislature are seeking to violate our constitution and further stigmatize people who have abortions,\u201d <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ppazaction\/status\/1352732354939285504\"><span>asserted<\/span><\/a><span> Murphy Bannerman, communications manager of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Arizona.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Other states \u2014 including Oklahoma and Indiana \u2014 are pursuing similar outright <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/on-anniversary-of-roe-v-wade-4-states-push-to-outlaw-abortion\"><span>bans<\/span><\/a><span> on abortion.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Pregnancy support from dads \u2014 Utah<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>State lawmakers in Utah approved a bill that would require biological fathers to offer financial support to mothers during their pregnancies.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The bill \u2014 which was signed by Gov. Spencer Cox (R-UT) in March \u2014 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/new-utah-law-requires-biological-dads-to-pay-pregnancy-support\"><span>mandates<\/span><\/a><span> that a father pay for half of a mother\u2019s insurance premiums and pregnancy-related medical costs, including the hospital birth of the child.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cOftentimes there\u2019s this battle between pro-life and pro-choice where some of the pro-life positions really turn into a perception that it\u2019s just anti-abortion,\u201d <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sltrib.com\/news\/politics\/2021\/01\/28\/bill-require-fathers-pay\/\"><span>explained<\/span><\/a><span> state Rep. Brady Brammer (R-UT) to the House Judiciary Committee. \u201cI kind of got sick of those things and I thought what could we do that\u2019s really a pro-life thing? \u2026 and so that\u2019s where this bill came from.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As Sen. Dan McCay (R-UT) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sltrib.com\/news\/politics\/2021\/02\/18\/bill-requiring-fathers\/\"><span>added<\/span><\/a><span>, the legislation is an attempt \u201cto try and bring some equity to the funding of pregnancies and share in that burden and [to recognize] the important role that the mother and the father play in the pregnancy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Required burial rites \u2014 Ohio<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>An Ohio bill would \u201cimpose requirements on the final disposition of fetal remains from surgical abortions.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Under the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/search-prod.lis.state.oh.us\/solarapi\/v1\/general_assembly_133\/bills\/sb27\/EN\/05?format=pdf\"><span>Unborn Child Dignity Act<\/span><\/a><span>, mothers would have to indicate whether they would prefer a cremation or burial for their aborted children. The bill also clarifies that \u201cif a woman is carrying more than one zygote, blastocyte, embryo, or fetus, such as in the incidence of twins or triplets,\u201d each unborn child is \u201ca separate product of human conception\u201d that will receive a distinct burial.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Ohio Right to Life and former state Sen. Joe Uecker (R-OH) are leading efforts to pass the bill.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWhether pro-life or pro-choice, everyone should be able to agree that the bodies of babies should never be thrown into the trash,\u201d <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohiolife.org\/sb_27_passes_ohio_house\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span> Ohio Right to Life in a statement. \u201cThe unborn victims of abortion deserve the same basic decency that we afford to all humans: a dignified burial.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cAlthough we look forward to the day when we no longer have to lay to rest the broken bodies of Ohio\u2019s abortion victims, we are proud to say that our state has taken another step towards recognizing not only the humanity of the unborn, but of ourselves as well,\u201d the group added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Fathers\u2019 veto \u2014 Tennessee<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>Tennessee lawmakers are working to pass a bill that would allow fathers to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/tennessee-introduces-bill-allowing-fathers-to-prevent-an-abortion\"><span>protect<\/span><\/a><span> their unborn children from abortion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/wapp.capitol.tn.gov\/apps\/BillInfo\/Default.aspx?BillNumber=SB0494\"><span>legislation<\/span><\/a><span> \u201cpermits a person to petition a court for an injunction to prohibit a woman who is pregnant with the person\u2019s unborn child from obtaining an abortion.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As the bill summary explains, both parties would provide evidence regarding the unborn baby\u2019s parentage. If a man proves that he is the biological father of the child and that \u201cthere is a reasonable probability that the respondent will seek an abortion prior to giving birth to the unborn child,\u201d the court will grant an injunction \u2014 a \u201ccourt order requiring a person to do or cease doing a specific action\u201d \u2014 preventing the mother from terminating the pregnancy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>If the mother violates the injunction, \u201cthe court may hold the respondent in civil or criminal contempt and punish the respondent in accordance with the law.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As bill sponsor state Sen. Mark Pody (R-TN) explained to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/fox17.com\/news\/local\/new-bill-tn-mothers-seeking-abortion-could-face-injunction-if-fathers-file-petition\"><span>Fox 17 News Nashville<\/span><\/a><span>, if a man \u201ccan prove to the courts that he is the father, the biological father, then he has rights to what\u2019s going on with his son or daughter.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Pro-life license plates \u2014 Idaho<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>Idaho will allow residents to purchase a license plate designed as a fundraiser for pro-life causes.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Gov. Brad Little (R-ID) signed a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifenews.com\/2020\/03\/06\/idaho-governor-signs-bill-allowing-motorists-to-purchase-choose-life-license-plates\/\"><span>law<\/span><\/a><span> approving the \u201cChoose Life\u201d specialty license plates, which residents will be able to purchase for $35 each.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/chooselifeidaho.org\/about-us\/our-mission\/\"><span>Choose Life Idaho<\/span><\/a><span> \u2014 the organization that designed the license plates and will receive a portion of the sales \u2014 works to \u201craise funds to support life affirming pregnancy resource centers, to help pregnant women choose life for their babies, and to encourage adoption as a positive choice for women with unplanned pregnancies.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/legislature.idaho.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/sessioninfo\/2020\/legislation\/S1249.pdf\"><span>legislation<\/span><\/a><span> states, Choose Life Idaho will receive a $22 share of each new plate purchase, as well as $12 of each $25 renewal fee.
