Shots were fired for at least two blocks before the vehicle carrying the child crashed near Monroe,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcchicago.com\/news\/local\/child-shot-while-riding-in-vehicle-on-lake-shore-drive-near-chicagos-grant-park\/2479486\/\">NBC\u2019s Chicago affiliate reported<\/a>. \u2018Police said a person of interest is currently being questioned in the shooting but did not release further information about a suspect, suspects or any vehicles that may have been involved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A good samaritan stopped to help the family trapped in the vehicle and transported both parents and the wounded child to nearby Northwestern Hospital. The child was later transported to Lurie Children\u2019s Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>The child is reported to have a brain injury and remains in critical condition. Doctors described the boy\u2019s status, Tuesday evening, as \u201cgrave.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s undergoing a number of treatments and we\u2019re managing his illness right now, so it\u2019s really hard to predict right now what will happen,\u201d Dr. Marcelo Malakooti, associate chief medical officer with Lurie Children\u2019s Hospital, <a href=\"https:\/\/abc7chicago.com\/shooting-on-lake-shore-drive-child-shot-chicago-shootings-lsd\/10494090\/\">told Chicago\u2019s ABC news station<\/a>. \u201cAny time we have brain injury, it\u2019s very hard to predict exactly what the course will be, but it\u2019s a very tenuous situation. It can change hourly for us, but luckily he\u2019s in a location where we can respond to any other emergencies if we have to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The child is just the latest in a string of Chicago juveniles wounded or killed amid an ongoing spike in gun violence in the city.<\/p>\n<p>Last summer, during a shocking wave of gun violence that paralyzed the city\u2019s south and west side, six children ten years and younger were killed<a href=\"https:\/\/chicago.suntimes.com\/2020\/9\/25\/21452929\/mourning-babies-killed-chicago-violence-summer-horror\"> according to the Chicago Sun-Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThree were killed riding in a car with parents, executed by enemies gunning for the car owners,\u201d the outlet reported last summer. \u201cTwo were killed playing not far from the front doors of their homes. One was inside her home. She was watching television when gang member bullets found her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>By the end of the summer, 38 juveniles were killed or wounded.<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday\u2019s horrific act of violence appears to be random, according to Chicago Police.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was a dispute possibly over not letting somebody into a lane of traffic,\u201d police officials told local media.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAuthorities said a weapon was recovered from someone who was inside the vehicle the child was riding in, but it remained unclear if that weapon was used,\u201d NBC 5 Chicago noted.<\/p>\n<p>As the Daily Wire reported previously, Chicago\u2019s streak of violence shows no signs of abating. Although carjackings are now down after hitting a high during the first two months of the year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/chicago-shootings-spike-again-in-march-four-cops-shot-as-crime-wave-continues\">shootings and homicides spiked again in March<\/a> as the weather warmed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor 2021, there were 233 shooting incidents and 298 shooting victims, police data show,\u201d CNN said in a report released Monday. \u201cIn March of 2020, there were 146 shootings and 175 victims; in March 2019 there were 136 shooting incidents and 165 victims; and in 2018 there were also 136 shootings, with 151 victims.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><i>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
