On Wednesday, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) tweeted: \u201cPaid leave is infrastructure, childcare is infrastructure, caregiving is infrastructure.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Paid leave is infrastructure.<br \/>Child care is infrastructure.<br \/>Caregiving is infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Kirsten Gillibrand (@SenGillibrand) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenGillibrand\/status\/1379773312482607106?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 7, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Democrat prompted ridicule for the remarks, with Texas Sen. Ted Cruz replying \u201cwhatever the left wants is infrastructure. You know what\u2019s not? Roads and bridges.\u201d He then stated that \u201conly 5 percent of Biden\u2019s \u2018infrastructure bill\u2019 is roads and bridges.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Buttigieg&#8217;s defense of the broad definition of infrastructure is essentially &#8220;who cares?&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>From MSNBC interview today: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/3znwclkvCo\">pic.twitter.com\/3znwclkvCo<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Sam Mintz (@samjmintz) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/samjmintz\/status\/1379788099270684675?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 7, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg essentially <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/morning-joe\/watch\/secretary-buttigieg-we-ve-got-a-lot-of-work-to-do-on-infrastructure-109786693628?cid=sm_npd_ms_tw_ma\">confirmed<\/a> this is how the Democrats and White House operate: By putting an appealing label on a bill and hiding partisan intentions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen there\u2019s this other line of objection that we hear,\u201d Buttigieg claimed. \u201c\u2018These are all good things to do, but this piece or that piece, we don\u2019t agree that that\u2019s infrastructure.\u2019 There\u2019s this semantic debate that\u2019s opening up, and to me, it\u2019s a little bit beside the point.
