That\u2019s why we plan for 50% of the 5,000 pilots we train in the next decade to be women or people of color.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"8.8553459119497\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Our flight deck should reflect the diverse group of people on board our planes every day. When you\u2019re flying in a metal tube, hurtling through the air at 500 miles per hour, 35,000 feet above <em>nothing<\/em>, the last thing that should be on anyone\u2019s mind is the color of the pilot\u2019s skin or wh<\/span><span>ether they have male or female genitalia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Affirmative action generally comes with the concern that standards are intentionally adjusted to fit various quotas. To apply such an ideology to a literal matter of life and death shows just how dedicated to \u201cwokeness\u201d corporations like United Airlines have become.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Unless airlines are specifically turning down qualified candidates because of their race or gender \u2014 which is already illegal given current equality laws \u2014 there is simply no problem here which must be fixed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Lack of diversity among any profession is only a \u201cproblem\u201d when people who are qualified for the role are being prevented from achieving their potential by nature of their sex or race. If diversity <\/span><i><span>happens<\/span><\/i><span> to be lacking, unless there is some form of underlying discrimination, we simply shouldn\u2019t care.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>After all, the NBA is hardly diverse. The majority of basketball players in the NBA are black. Even more shockingly, by the Left\u2019s standards, every NBA player is <em>male<\/em>. And yet, protests of \u201canti-white\u201d discrimination or \u201canti-female\u201d discrimination in the NBA are lacking. Why?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The reason is that this is all a virtue signaling stunt. Rather than setting standards and letting anyone \u2014 regardless of race or sex \u2014 attempt to meet those standards, corporations are giving in to pressure from the Left to act as identity puppet masters for certain industries, while leaving pure meritocracy to rule in others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>And when it comes to flying a plane, meritocracy should be the only factor we care about.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>After the immediate and obvious backlash, United followed up, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/united-airlines-says-it-wants-50-of-pilots-trained-in-next-decade-to-be-women-or-people-of-color?%3Futm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=dwtwitter&#039;\"><span>saying<\/span><\/a><span>, \u201cAll the highly qualified candidates we accept into the Academy, regardless of race or sex, will have met or exceeded the standards we set for admittance.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This followup proves just how absurd United\u2019s virtue signaling statement was. If all the candidates accepted into their academy are \u201chighly qualified,\u201d then what\u2019s the problem? If all the candidates \u201cregardless of race or sex\u201d have \u201cmet or exceeded the standards\u201d set for admittance, what\u2019s the problem?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In this case, United is stuck between a rock and a hard place of their own making. Either they\u2019re going to purposefully select candidates based on race and sex in order to hit their goal of 2,500 trainees being \u201cwomen of color,\u201d or they\u2019re going to ignore race and sex and simply select the best candidates, regardless of whether they are women of color or not.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>I don\u2019t care whether my pilot is black or white, male or female, as long as they can fly the plane.
