CVS cofounder Stanley Goldstein, meanwhile, donated $3,000 to federal candidates\u2014all Democrats\u2014before retiring in 2006.<\/p>\n<p>Why does it matter? According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/florida-covid-vaccine-ron-de-santis-60-minutes-2021-04-04\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CBS News<\/a>: &#8220;Distributing vaccines is lucrative. Under federal guidelines, Publix, like any other private company, can charge Medicare $40 a shot to administer the vaccine.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A journalistic analysis of the finance reports conclusively demonstrated that CVS <a href=\"https:\/\/cvshealth.com\/sites\/default\/files\/cvs-health-political-activities-and-contributions-2020.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">donated<\/a> $31,000 to Newsom&#8217;s campaign on Oct. 14, 2020, less than four months before the pharmacy announced a partnership with the California Department of Health. The pharmacy giant also donated $10,000 to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, one of the most influential Democrats in Congress, who just happens to represent a district in California.<\/p>\n<p>The analysis also determined that CVS <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vpap.org\/candidates\/67038\/donor\/119044\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">donated<\/a> $12,000 to Northam between 2017 and 2018, and contributed $20,000 to the Commonwealth Victory Fund on Dec. 17, 2020, just weeks before Northam announced the vaccine partnership with the pharmacy. A subsequent Google search <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vpap.org\/committees\/147756\/commonwealth-victory-fund\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">revealed<\/a> that the Commonwealth Victory Fund is the primary fundraising arm of the Virginia General Assembly&#8217;s Democratic Caucus.<\/p>\n<p>Additional analysis concluded that CVS donated a whopping $170,000 in 2020 to the Democratic Party in New York, the same state where Cuomo serves as governor. The corporation donated $10,000 to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, a Democrat from New York, and gave an additional $10,000 to Schumer&#8217;s political action committee.<\/p>\n<p>The CVS influence campaign did not stop there. The company sought to curry favor at the national level by contributing $30,000 each to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
