The move came amid growing calls from left-leaning activists to boycott businesses and corporations in Georgia that did not disavow the voter laws.<\/p>\n<p>Now, the decision could cost the league it\u2019s decades old immunity.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-S.C.) took to social media first, announcing his staff was drafting legislation to remove MLB\u2019s federal antitrust exemption.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">In light of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MLB?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@MLB<\/a>&#8216;s stance to undermine election integrity laws, I have instructed my staff to begin drafting legislation to remove Major League Baseball&#8217;s federal antitrust exception.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Rep. Jeff Duncan (@RepJeffDuncan) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepJeffDuncan\/status\/1378074529076015106?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 2, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Back in 1922, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that antitrust law did not apply to Major League Baseball, because baseball is not considered interstate commerce.<\/p>\n<p>This exemption does not apply to other professional sports like the NFL or the NBA.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) agreed with Duncan, saying \u201cit\u2019s time for the federal government to stop granting special privileges to specific, favored corporations. Brian Kemp (R) maintains the new law will ensure elections are protected from voter fraud. He criticized MLB in a press conference on Saturday, saying the decision to pull the game was an example of cancel culture and the league caving to Democrats\u2019 criticism.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMajor League Baseball caved to fear and lies from liberal activists,\u201d Kemp stated. \u201cThey ignored the facts of our new election integrity law and they ignored the consequences of their decision on our local community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Georgia Republicans have even passed an amendment to revoke a tax break on jet fuel for Delta Airlines, after its CEO called the new law \u201cunacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Republicans said the law is being misrepresented by Democrats, and businesses are being manipulated into political arguments.<\/p>\n<p>MLB has not specified where they will relocate the summer game to.<\/p>\n<h4>MORE NEWS: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oann.com\/lawmakers-aim-to-strike-balance-on-capitol-security\/\">Lawmakers Aim To Strike Balance On Capitol Security<\/a><\/h4>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON, DC \u2013 SEPTEMBER 27: Sen.
