The suspect proceeded to exit the vehicle and charge aggressively at officers \u2014 in what Pittman described as a lunging motion \u2014 while wielding a knife.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The suspect was fatally shot by police and was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-capitol-attack-suspect-identified-claimed-to-be-follower-of-farrakhan-admired-malcolm-x\">The Daily Wire<\/a> previously noted, reports&nbsp;indicate that the suspect identified as a follower of Nation of Islam, the group led by Louis Farrakhan. Metropolitan Police Chief Robert Contee said earlier Friday that officials don\u2019t believe that the attack was terrorism-related, but emphasized that the investigation is ongoing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt does not appear to be terrorism-related, but obviously, we\u2019ll continue to investigate to see if there\u2019s some type of nexus along those lines,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>One other police officer, whose name has not been publicly released, was also transported to an area hospital with unspecified injuries. The officer\u2019s condition has not been publicly disclosed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just ask that the public continue to keep U.S. Capitol police and their families in your prayers,\u201d said Pittman. \u201cThis has been an extremely difficult time for U.S. Capitol Police. After the events of January 6, and now the events that have occurred here today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has ordered flags at the Capitol at half-mast, and President Joe Biden has ordered the same for the White House.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJill and I were heartbroken to learn of the violent attack at a security checkpoint on the U.S. Capitol grounds, which killed Officer William Evans of the U.S. Capitol Police, and left a fellow officer fighting for his life,\u201d said Biden in a statement. \u201cWe send our heartfelt condolences to Officer Evans\u2019 family, and everyone grieving his loss.
