Version: 4.0.47--><div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/fb_image-370.jpeg?w=1200&amp;h=800&amp;ixlib=react-9.0.3\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\" \/><\/div>\n<p><span>House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) announced Friday morning that she will extend the timeline for proxy voting into May, a move that will allow lawmakers to continue voting for legislation without actually physically showing up to the Capitol building.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Pelosi decided to extend the proxy-voting rule, which drew backlash and a lawsuit from some House Republicans when it was originally announced last year, after she received formal notification that a public health emergency \u201cremains in effect\u201d due to COVID-19.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIn light of the attached notification by the Acting Sergeant-At-Arms, in consultation with the Office of Attending Physician, that a public health emergency is in effect due to a novel coronavirus, I am hereby extending the \u2018covered period\u2019 designated on January 4, 2021, pursuant to section 3(s) of House Resolution 8, until May 19, 2021,\u201d said Pelosi in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.speaker.gov\/newsroom\/4221-0\">statement<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Several weeks ago, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) formally asked Pelosi in a letter when the proxy-voting period would end, arguing that the American people deserve to know when Congress will assemble as normal again.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cNearly a year ago to the day, you made the decision to close the Capitol to visitors and begin implementing new protocols to govern access and movement of the members and staff of the Capitol complex,\u201d said McCarthy, one of the lawmakers who filed the ultimately unsuccessful 2020 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/judge-dismisses-lawsuit-after-house-republicans-sue-pelosi-over-proxy-voting-plan\"><span>lawsuit against Pelosi<\/span><\/a><span> that called the House\u2019s proxy-voting rule unconstitutional. \u201cBut since that time, we have learned more about the virus and have made monumental strides in our scientific and technological endeavors.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>McCarthy also said 75% of House lawmakers have been fully vaccinated, a figure his congressional aides said came from the attending physician\u2019s office, reports <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/house-coronavirus-vaccine-pelosi-republicans\/2021\/03\/17\/9487e264-85e3-11eb-8a67-f314e5fcf88d_story.html\"><span>The Washington Post<\/span><\/a><span>. \u201c<\/span><span>Simply put: it\u2019s time we return to regular order,\u201d said McCarthy.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"8.2758620689655\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">A simple question for Speaker Pelosi: What is your plan to reopen the People\u2019s House?<\/p>\n<p>I just sent her this letter because the American people deserve answers. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/H2sfUywbRz\">pic.twitter.com\/H2sfUywbRz<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Kevin McCarthy (@GOPLeader) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GOPLeader\/status\/1369740937757392901?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 10, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>Although the House proxy-voting rule was spearheaded by Democrats, recently, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/gop-congressmen-call-out-colleagues-for-voting-by-proxy-claim-it-could-render-congress-permanently-dysfunctional\">Republican lawmakers have been using it<\/a> as well, much to the dismay of other Republicans who see it as damaging and want to see it promptly scrapped. <\/span><span>\u201cDemocrats in particular are destroying the institution by doing this \u2014 we don\u2019t meet, we don\u2019t debate, we don\u2019t amend. But even a number of my GOP colleagues are now complicit and have given in to the Democrats recklessness,\u201d remarked Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) in early March, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house-republicans-proxy-voting-tension\">The Washington Examiner<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cProxy voting is destroying Congress,\u201d said Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI). \u201cThis idea that members of Congress can allow someone else to vote for them.
