U.S. intelligence officials have not made a statement to that effect,\u201d the correction says.<\/p>\n<p>The outlet also edited a paragraph in the middle of the review on Rudy Giuliani, former President Donald Trump\u2019s personal attorney, and his attempts to spotlight Biden\u2019s history of drug abuse and questionable overseas business dealings. The initial version of the story read:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"7\">\n<p><em>The last gasp of Giuliani\u2019s campaign against the Bidens featured a laptop supposedly obtained from sources that would document the younger Biden\u2019s drug use and other offenses. The laptop story was discredited by U.S. intelligence and independent investigations by news organizations.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The updated version of the story has removed the reference to U.S. intelligence officials and now says:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"7\">\n<p><em>The last gasp of Giuliani\u2019s campaign against the Bidens featured a laptop supposedly obtained from sources that would document the younger Biden\u2019s drug use and other offenses. Numerous news organizations cast doubt on the credibility of the laptop story.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Biden himself <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/ben-shapiro-slams-russian-disinformation-claims-after-hunter-biden-says-laptop-certainly-could-be-real\">has not challenged<\/a> the authenticity of the laptop in question. In an interview with CBS News set to air on April 4, Biden admits that the laptop at the center of a series of October stories on his business dealings and other affairs \u201ccertainly\u201d could be his. CBS News released a clip of the interview on Friday morning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor real, I don\u2019t know. I really don\u2019t know what the answer is. That\u2019s the truthful answer,\u201d Biden said, referring to his alleged laptop. \u201cOf course, certainly [it could have been my laptop]. There could be a laptop out there that was stolen from me. It could be I was hacked. It could be that it was Russian intelligence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/npr-were-not-covering-biden-laptop-scandal-because-its-not-really-a-story-pure-distractions\">NPR<\/a> participated in a media and big tech blackout of news coverage on Biden\u2019s laptop in the run-up to the 2020 election as a flurry of stories on Biden\u2019s overseas business dealings broke in October, weeks before the election. On Oct. 22, NPR\u2019s managing editor for news Terence Samuels put out a statement addressing questions over the outlet\u2019s lack of coverage on Biden.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t want to waste our time on stories that are not really stories, and we don\u2019t want to waste the listeners\u2019 and readers\u2019 time on stories that are just pure distractions,\u201d Samuels said.<\/p>\n<p>Along with NPR, other outlets journalists, pundits, and experts dismissed the Biden laptop stories as potential&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2020\/10\/19\/hunter-biden-story-russian-disinfo-430276\">Russian disinformation<\/a>. Facebook limited the stories\u2019 reach under the guise of fact-checking the claims.
