And he grabbed me, in a hug, and grabbed me. He gave me a bear hug. And he said, he just cried, he said, \u201cI don\u2019t know what to do. I don\u2019t know what to do. Please.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>CBS NEWS: What did you think when you heard that?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>HUNTER BIDEN: I thought, I need to figure out a way to tell him that I\u2019m going to do something, so that I can go take another hit. That\u2019s the only thing I could think. Literally, that\u2019s how powerful. I don\u2019t know of a force more powerful than my family\u2019s love, except addiction.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>USA Today <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/entertainment\/books\/2021\/03\/31\/hunter-biden-memoir-he-opens-up-hallie-biden-crack-addiction\/4826035001\/\">highlighted<\/a> what Hunter Biden wrote in his new book \u201cBeautiful Things,\u201d including a portion where Hunter Biden wrote about his addiction battles during 2018:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"29\">\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\"><em>In the spring of 2018, he used his \u201csuperpower \u2013 finding crack anytime, anywhere\u201d \u2013 in Los Angeles. At one point, a dealer pointed a gun at his head before he realized&nbsp;Biden was looking for drugs.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\"><em>He later learned how to cook drugs and spent a lot of time with thieves, addicts and&nbsp;con artists. \u201cI never slept. There was no clock. Day bled into night and night into day,\u201d he writes.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\"><em>The situation grew out of control. \u201cI was smoking crack every 15 minutes,\u201d he writes.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\"><em>Biden returned to the East Coast in the fall of 2018, again wanting to get better, though that didn\u2019t happen.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\"><em>Eventually, his family tried to stage an intervention. \u201cI don\u2019t know what else to do,\u201d Joe Biden told him. \u201cI\u2019m so scared. Tell me what to do.\u201d His son replied: \u201cNot (expletive) this.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The gun scandal involving Hunter Biden, who was kicked out of the Navy in 2014 after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/joe-bidens-son-hunter-kicked-out-navy-cocaine-n227811\">testing positive<\/a> for cocaine, erupted in October 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Politico reported last week that the gun incident happened when state and federal law enforcement officials responded to the incident in which Hallie Biden \u2014 the widow of Hunter Biden\u2019s brother, Beau Biden \u2014 threw away a gun that Hunter Biden had purchased from a gun store.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSecret Service agents approached the owner of the store where Hunter bought the gun and asked to take the paperwork involving the sale, according to two people, one of whom has firsthand knowledge of the episode and the other was briefed by a Secret Service agent after the fact,\u201d Politico&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2021\/03\/25\/sources-secret-service-inserted-itself-into-case-of-hunter-bidens-gun-477879\">reported<\/a>. \u201cThe gun store owner refused to supply the paperwork, suspecting that the Secret Service officers wanted to hide Hunter\u2019s ownership of the missing gun in case it were to be involved in a crime, the two people said. The owner, Ron Palmieri, later turned over the papers to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, which oversees federal gun laws.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The report added:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"20\">\n<p><em>POLITICO obtained copies of the Firearms Transaction Record and a receipt for the gun dated Oct. 12, 2018.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Hunter responded \u201cno\u201d to a question on the transaction record that asks, \u201cAre you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?\u201d Five years earlier, he had been discharged from the Navy Reserve after testing positive for cocaine, and he and family members have spoken about his history of drug use.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Lying on an ATF Form 4473 is a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2018\/09\/11\/lying-buy-gun-fear-not-feds\/\">felony<\/a>&nbsp;that can carry a 10-year prison sentence with a $250,000 fine.
