(Drew Angerer\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h5>OAN Newsroom<br \/>UPDATED 1:05 PM PT \u2013 Thursday, April 1, 2021<\/h5>\n<p>Montana Governor Greg Gianforte (R) signed a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mtpr.org\/post\/gov-gianforte-signs-sanctuary-city-ban\">bill<\/a> to ban sanctuary cities throughout the state. On Wednesday, Gianforte signed the bill, which will require Montana cities to comply with federal immigration laws. This is a move that supporters have said will prevent large amounts of criminal activity.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;We are a nation of laws, and immigration laws will be enforced in Montana. Criminal, illegal aliens who pose public safety threats to our communities have no sanctuary in Montana,&#8221; Gov. Greg Gianforte (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovGianforte?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@GovGianforte<\/a>) told the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DailyCaller?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@DailyCaller<\/a> before signing the bill.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Henry Rodgers (@henryrodgersdc) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/henryrodgersdc\/status\/1377382598012375040?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 31, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The bill will empower the state\u2019s attorney general to pursue legal action against jurisdictions that do not comply with the legislation, including fines and withholding state funds from those cities.
