Senate Bill 7 passed in the state\u2019s upper chamber in a 18-13 vote on Thursday, after hours of debate.<\/p>\n<p>The legislation would impose several new measures, including limiting early voting hours and stopping the automatic mailing of ballots to all voters.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">After several hours of debate, Senate Bill 7 (Election Integrity) and Senate Bill 12 (Social Media Censorship) fully passed the Texas Senate early this morning. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/txlege?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#txlege<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/SB12?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#SB12<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/SB7?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#SB7<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Scott_SanfordTX?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Scott_SanfordTX<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BriscoeCain?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@BriscoeCain<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/HdQPc2FBy7\">pic.twitter.com\/HdQPc2FBy7<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Senator Bryan Hughes (@SenBryanHughes) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenBryanHughes\/status\/1377534968159698946?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 1, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The bill has received backlash from Democrats who said it amounts to voter suppression.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans, including Gov. Greg Abbott (R-Texas), emphasized the legislation is meant to protect the integrity of future elections.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Yesterday, Republicans in the Texas Senate passed much-needed election reforms.
