Again.<\/p>\n<p>On the left: an official Trump\/Pence \u201cAmerica First\u201d tee.<\/p>\n<p>On the right; the Iron Eagle, the official symbol of the Nazi party.<br \/>\u2070It\u2019s not an accident. Bigotry is their entire brand. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/mSOBxwf7Wa\">pic.twitter.com\/mSOBxwf7Wa<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Bend the Arc: Jewish Action (@jewishaction) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jewishaction\/status\/1278340461682442241?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 1, 2020<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>In July 2020, for example, USA Today published a <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20200712002923\/https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/factcheck\/2020\/07\/11\/fact-check-trump-2020-campaign-shirt-design-similar-nazi-eagle\/5414393002\/\"><span>fact-check<\/span><\/a><span> titled \u201cTrump campaign T-shirt design similar to Nazi eagle.\u201d The \u201cclaim\u201d investigated was that the \u201cTrump campaign shirts feature imperial eagle, a Nazi symbol.\u201d USA Today summarized this \u201cclaim\u201d as follows (formatting adjusted):<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"19.916540212443\">\n<p><i><span>\u201cPresident Donald Trump\u2019s campaign website recently unveiled a T-shirt that has come under fire because of design similarities between its logo and a Nazi symbol.&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><i><span>The similarity was first noticed, according to Forward, by two Twitter accounts, Bend the Arc: Jewish Action, described as a Jewish progressive group, and the Lincoln Project, an anti-Trump group formed by Republicans.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>\u2018The President of the United States is campaigning for reelection with a Nazi symbol. Again,\u2019 <\/span><\/i><a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20200712002923\/https:\/\/twitter.com\/jewishaction\/status\/1278340461682442241\"><i><span>Bend the Arc tweeted<\/span><\/i><\/a><i><span> on July 1.&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><i><span>Several <\/span><\/i><a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20200712002923\/https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo.php?fbid=10223377145117139&amp;set=a.1644724278273&amp;type=3&amp;theater\"><i><span>Facebook posts<\/span><\/i><\/a><i><span> have noted the similarities, as well. One user noted, \u2018Trump is now selling straight up nazi propaganda shirts.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>The USA Today fact-check continued, first explaining the history of Nazi eagle, which was \u201c<\/span><span>developed by the German Nazi Party in Germany in the 1920s, and became a symbol of the government after the party took power. \u2026<\/span><span>&nbsp;<\/span><span>Following World War II, the symbol was used by neo-Nazis and white supremacists.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Then, USA Today explained \u201cAmerica\u2019s use of the eagle:\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"13\">\n<p><i><span>\u201cThe Great Seal of America\u201d was developed in 1782 and also features a right-facing eagle, though the bird\u2019s talons are spread, one holding arrows, the other holding an olive branch.&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><i><span>\u201cOnly one authorized Great Seal is in official use and is operated by the U.S. Department of State. The Great Seal is impressed upon official documents such as treaties and commissions. The Department of State affixes about 3,000 seals to official documents yearly,\u2019 according to the State Department\u2019s website.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>\u201cThe similarities between the Trump logo and the Nazi eagle are obvious,\u201d USA Today asserted. \u201cBoth birds hold another national symbol in their talons, wings outstretched, with the head facing to the right to the viewer, or the eagle\u2019s left.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe designs have differences as well,\u201d the report acknowledged. \u201cIn Trump\u2019s, the eagle holds the American flag up near its chest; the Nazi symbol holds the swastika lower. Trump\u2019s design also features \u2018Trump 2020\u2019 below it. The American eagle is also a bald eagle, whereas the Nazi eagle is depicted as an all-black bird. Germany\u2019s federal eagle is depicted as a black bird with a red beak and talons.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Then, USA Today added further \u201ccontext\u201d to the supposed similarities by describing \u201cother Nazi symbolism,\u201d writing that \u201cTrump\u2019s campaign materials have featured symbols used by Nazis.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Absurdly, the USA Today fact-check initially concluded with a ruling of \u201ctrue\u201d: \u201c<\/span>The claims that a Trump campaign T-shirt uses a symbol similar to a Nazi eagle is TRUE, based on our research.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span>USA Today has since amended their so-called \u201cfact-check,\u201d attaching an editor\u2019s note that reads,&nbsp;\u201cThis story has been updated to reflect further reporting and analysis. The rating has been changed to inconclusive.\u201d USA Today has also given the piece a new&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/factcheck\/2020\/07\/11\/fact-check-trump-2020-campaign-shirt-design-similar-nazi-eagle\/5414393002\/\">title<\/a>: \u201cFact check: Trump campaign accused of T-shirt design with similarity to Nazi eagle.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In the updated version, \u201cAmerica\u2019s use of the eagle\u201d is listed before Germany\u2019s use of the eagle, and is expanded beyond the original two short paragraphs to include pivotal details such as, \u201c<\/span><span>The bald eagle has been the national bird of the United States since 1782, according to the Library of Congress.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The fact-checker then changed the ruling from \u201ctrue\u201d to \u201cinconclusive,\u201d writing:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"10\">\n<p><em><span>The U.S. government has many uses of eagle imagery in its official seals and emblems including on the \u201cGreat Seal of America,\u201d on the presidential seal and on the mace of the U.S. House of Representatives. The Trump campaign\u2019s T-shirt includes the use of an eagle that some claim bears resemblance to a Nazi eagle. We rate the claim that the Trump campaign is using Nazi imagery as INCONCLUSIVE, based on our research.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><b>Jill Biden\u2019s Flag<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>Given the outrage directed toward the Trump campaign T-shirt, the complete lack of interest shown in the flag behind Jill Biden as she declared \u201c<\/span><span>Si se pwadueh\u201d demonstrates not only the partisan nature of the legacy media, but the shameless partisanship of fact-checking organizations in general.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Before they were forced to amend their original fact-check, USA Today concluded that the Trump campaign\u2019s use of an eagle was \u201csimilar\u201d to Nazi imagery.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As noted above, according to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithsonianmag.com\/history\/how-cesar-chavez-changed-the-world-3735853\/\"><span>Smithsonian Magazine<\/span><\/a><span>, Chavez specifically \u201c<\/span>researched emblems, including cigarette boxes and Nazi flags,\u201d when he designed the flag.&nbsp;So, <span>when a Democrat like Jill Biden speaks in front of a flag at least in part inspired \u2014 by the designers\u2019 own admission \u2014 on Nazi imagery, we should notice that concerned investigative work from outlets like USA Today is suddenly nowhere to be seen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>What changed?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span>Ian Haworth is an Editor and Writer for The Daily Wire.
