John Kennedy (R-LA) mocked on Wednesday night a CNN report from this week that initially claimed a person\u2019s \u201cgender identity\u201d can\u2019t be known at birth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is from one of its \u2018breaking news and politics reporters\u2019 called Devan Cole,\u201d Fox News host Tucker Carlson said. \u201cCole was writing about South Dakota\u2019s legislation on transgender athletes. Cole wrote this line, and amazingly, CNN published it. We\u2019re quoting this directly from the CNN website. Here it is, \u2018It\u2019s not possible to know a person\u2019s gender identity at birth, and there is no consensus criteria for assigning sex at birth.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMeaning that for literally hundreds of thousands of years, human beings have been reproducing in caves, huts, hospitals, this little squealing human comes out butt naked, and no one has been able to determine whether this kid was a boy or a girl. No one has known! [Because] there\u2019s just no way to know,\u201d Carlson continued. \u201cBecause biology\u2019s not real; totally fake. Is there some way to tell, if you were to have a baby \u2014 if you were to take time from your vacationing and your internet use and your weed smoke, if you actually decided [to] perpetuate the species and you had a child \u2014 how would you know if that child was a boy or a girl?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Carlson asked Kennedy how to know if a baby was a boy or a girl.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe person who wrote that is entitled to his opinion, but in my opinion, I think he\u2019s been in lockdown too long,\u201d Kennedy responded. \u201cSex is the language we use to describe reproduction. In humans, there are only two sexes \u2014 male and female. Males have the potential to produce sperm; females have the potential to produce ova. These are observable physical characteristics. Sex is not a spectrum. It\u2019s binary; you\u2019re either male or female. Now, I do believe that gender dysphoria exists. It\u2019s rare, maybe one in 30,000 males, one in 100,000 females. Gender dysphoria is not an observable physical characteristic. It\u2019s an internal feeling. It\u2019s an internal feeling that a person of one sex has when he internally identifies with another sex. I think most Americans believe it\u2019s wrong to discriminate against someone because of an immutable characteristic, like sex or race.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kennedy continued by discussing the Democrats\u2019 \u201cEquality Act,\u201d saying that it was about controlling \u201ceducation, religion, public accommodation, [and] speech.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kennedy later gave an even more direct answer about how to tell the sex of a baby at birth, saying, \u201cI mean, it\u2019s very easy to tell a boy from a girl. For example, to what extent are Americans willing to give government the authority to require schools to make teenage girls in a junior high locker room, shower and change clothes with a biological boy who either has or claims to have gender dysphoria? To what extent are Americans willing to give government the authority to require all women\u2019s sports programs to make women compete with much stronger biological males who identify or claim to identify with females? And that\u2019s what this debate is about. But it\u2019s not about, are there more than two sexes? I think that\u2019s pretty clearly settled.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>CARLSON: That is the calmest and clearest explanation, and I would say also a very reasonable and moderate explanation, non-ideological explanation of reality I have heard in a while. Very quickly, Senator, they\u2019re trying to make us lie about observable reality, about science. How should individual Americans who have no power respond when told they must lie?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>KENNEDY: I think they should say no. I think they ought to be very frank. I think they ought to ask their elected representatives when they talk this nonsense how they made it through the birth canal. I mean, it\u2019s very easy to tell a boy from a girl. A boy has a penis, a girl has a vagina. Those are physical characteristics. And it\u2019s all about reproduction.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>CARLSON: Yep. Sex can be identified at the DNA-level.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>KENNEDY: I\u2019m sure that\u2019s something you didn\u2019t know, Tucker, but we all learn.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>CARLSON: I had to confront it several times in the delivery room.
