Indeed, the Democrats claim to represent the issues of black Americans to such an extent that voters \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2020\/05\/22\/politics\/biden-charlamagne-tha-god-you-aint-black\/index.html\"><span>ain\u2019t black<\/span><\/a><span>\u201d unless they vote blue.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>However, recent data seems to tell a different story. In the 2020 election, for example, President Trump <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/11\/06\/trump-won-record-minority-support-yet-the-left-is-calling-it-racism\/\"><span>won<\/span><\/a><span> 18% of votes from African-American men \u2014 a record-shattering number for a Republican presidential candidate in modern history. If<\/span> Democrats hope to retain their grip upon the black voting bloc, perhaps they should re-evaluate some of the positions they claim exist \u201cfor the good\u201d of African-Americans. As polling shows, the visions of Democratic leadership and black voters are drastically different across many key policy areas.<\/p>\n<p><span>Here are four examples.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Election security<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>Leading Democrats routinely decry Republican attempts to enact voter identification laws as racist <\/span><span>\u2014<\/span><span> despite overwhelming support for such attempts among black voters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Most recently, President Biden cast a recent push in Georgia to increase election security as \u201cJim Crow in the 21st Century,\u201d according to a White House <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2021\/03\/26\/statement-by-president-biden-on-the-attack-on-the-right-to-vote-in-georgia\/\"><span>press release<\/span><\/a><span>. He also said that there exists a \u201cmoral and Constitutional obligation to act\u201d against the new legislation and in favor of the Democrats\u2019 \u201cFor The People Act,\u201d which would effectively <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/4-devastating-consequences-of-the-for-the-people-act\"><span>scrap<\/span><\/a><span> voter identification requirements across the nation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>However, a recent Rasmussen <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/75-of-all-u-s-voters-69-of-black-voters-support-voter-id-laws-everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-election-integrity-debate\"><span>poll<\/span><\/a><span> shows that 75% of lik<\/span><span>ely American voters believe that citizens \u201cshould be required to show photo identification such as a driver\u2019s license before being allowed to vote.\u201d Only 21% opposed such a policy.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>African Americans were no exception; they rejected the idea that voter ID laws \u201cdiscriminate against black voters and other minorities\u201d by a nearly two-to-one margin. Sixty percent agreed that photo identification laws are not discriminatory, while 31% disagreed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Defunding the police<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>In the wake of George Floyd\u2019s death, many leftists began asserting that the police were a fundamentally racist institution <\/span><span>\u2014<\/span><span> again, to the contrary of most black Americans\u2019 convictions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>One Princeton University professor <\/span><span>\u2014<\/span><span> who happens to be <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.campusreform.org\/article?id=16138\"><span>sponsored<\/span><\/a><span> by one of Colin Kaepernick\u2019s social justice initiatives <\/span><span>\u2014<\/span><span> claimed<\/span><span> in an op-ed that the goal to \u201creform the police\u201d usually means to \u201creward the police\u201d as they \u201cbrutalize and kill.\u201d Such ideas received nods from legacy media, major corporations, and progressive politicians \u2014 all of whom are partial to the Democratic Party.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Drowned out under calls to defund the police \u2014 which were carried out under the auspices of the \u201cBlack Lives Matter\u201d movement \u2014 were the voices of many black Americans. One YouGov poll <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/defund-police-reform-poll_n_5ee28787c5b6f4c439ac4a0b?h12\"><span>discovered<\/span><\/a><span> that African Americans overwhelmingly oppose the notion of defunding the police.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cSelf-described liberals support defunding the police by a 13-point margin,\u201d reported HuffPost. \u201cBut nearly every other ideological and demographic group opposes it. Democrats and Democratic leaners oppose it by a 4-percentage point margin, and Black Americans oppose it by a 20-point margin.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>After calls to defund the police proved to be unpopular among virtually all demographics in the United States, Democrats finally took the hint. One month into the newest Congress, Democrats in the Senate <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bongino.com\/senate-votes-100-0-on-amendment-opposing-defunding-of-police\"><span>voted<\/span><\/a><span> unanimously for a resolution to defend <\/span><span>\u2014 <\/span><span>not defund <\/span><span>\u2014 <\/span><span>the police.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>School choice<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>The Biden campaign <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/joebiden.com\/education\/\"><span>platform<\/span><\/a><span> promised to \u201cbuild the best, most innovative schools in the country in low-income communities and communities of color.\u201d However, the Biden administration and other Democratic leadership hold starkly different ideas from communities of color in fulfilling those ends.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Across federal and state ballot measures, Democrats tend to vote against school choice programs, which seek to harness market forces to improve primary and secondary schooling outcomes for students \u2014 regardless of race or ZIP code.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Though Democrats oppose them, school choice programs are extremely popular among the Democrats\u2019 minority voting base. One recent <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brookings.edu\/blog\/brown-center-chalkboard\/2019\/05\/21\/democrats-views-on-charters-diverge-by-race-as-2020-elections-loom\/\"><span>poll<\/span><\/a><span> indicated that 58% of black Democrats held favorable views of school choice, while only 31% held unfavorable views. Hispanic Democrats indicated 52% favorability, while 30% were unfavorable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Studies routinely show that school choice programs boost results for African American students. For example, Georgia\u2019s education scholarship program \u2014 which <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.campusreform.org\/article?id=16479\"><span>offset<\/span><\/a><span> the costs of students attending private schools by incentivizing taxpayers to donate toward education nonprofits \u2014 saw high school graduation rates rise by 18% for black children.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Illegal immigration<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>During election season, the Democrats <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/joebiden.com\/immigration\/\"><span>promised<\/span><\/a><span> to \u201cwelcome immigrants\u201d by \u201ccreating neighborhood resource centers\u201d that would help illegal immigrants access the healthcare and schooling systems. The Biden platform floated a plethora of similar initiatives which, as many <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/think\/opinion\/biden-immigration-policies-cause-predictable-border-crisis-why-didn-t-ncna1260992\"><span>suggest<\/span><\/a><span>, are leading to the present migrant crisis at the border.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>One CBS News\/YouGov <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/poll-black-americans-prefer-deportation-illegal-paul-bois\"><span>poll<\/span><\/a><span> from the Trump era showed that 40% of black Americans agree that illegal immigrants ought to be deported back to their place of origin. Only 20% of black Americans believe that detained families should be released during the asylum hearing process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Studies consistently prove that illegal immigration has particularly salient economic impacts on black communities. For example, Vernon Briggs of Cornell University and the Center for Immigration Studies <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cis.org\/Testimony\/Illegal-Immigration-Impact-Wages-and-Employment-Black-Workers\"><span>wrote<\/span><\/a><span> that \u201cbecause most illegal immigrants overwhelmingly seek work in the low skilled labor market and because the black American labor force is so disproportionately concentrated in this same low wage sector, there is little doubt that there is significant overlap in competition for jobs in this sector of the labor market.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThis is not surprising, since if employers have an opportunity to hire illegal immigrant workers, they will always give them preference over legal workers of any race or ethnic background,\u201d added Briggs. \u201cThis is because illegal immigrant workers view low skilled jobs in the American economy as being highly preferable to the job opportunities in their homelands that they have left.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i>The views expressed in this opinion piece are the author\u2019s own and do not necessarily represent those of The Daily Wire.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
