Director Michael Pack\u2019s film allows the Supreme Court Justice, famous for sharing few public words, to detail his upbringing and judicial philosophy. Viewers learned of the justice\u2019s impoverished childhood, his flirtation with radicalism and how Democrats attempted what he called a \u201chigh-tech lynching\u201d to keep him off the highest court in the land.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Pack is a veteran filmmaker with long ties to PBS, and the film earned a 99 percent \u201cFresh\u201d score from RottenTomatoes.com readers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cCreated Equal\u201d landed on Amazon\u2019s on-demand platform after its traditional broadcast run without incident until a few weeks ago. Then, Amazon abruptly pulled the film focused on the only current black member of the Supreme Court during Black History Month.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The company offered no reason for the film\u2019s removal from its platform nor any warning that such a step might occur. The title remains unavailable on Amazon, but the company allows the DVD version of the film to be purchased on its consumer product side.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This reporter contacted Amazon for a separate story about the film\u2019s removal but didn\u2019t receive a response.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Enter SalemNOW. The new video streaming service specializes in right-leaning, faith-friendly titles like \u201cNo Safe Spaces,\u201d \u201cChurch People\u201d and \u201cWhat Killed Michael Brown?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The video distribution arm of Salem Media Group just added \u201cCreated Equal\u201d to its content lineup.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe know the admiration our fans have for Justice Thomas.&nbsp;Now through experiencing \u2018Created Equal,\u2019 they will learn his incredible, courageous life story and how he became one of the greatest legal minds in the history of America,\u201d Michael Reed of Salem Media Group said in a statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Amazon previously attempted to block the 2020 film \u201cWhat Killed Michael Brown?\u201d from its on-demand services. Amazon initially told the team behind the film, a contrarian take on the Ferguson man\u2019s death in 2014, that the documentary didn\u2019t meet the streaming service\u2019s quality criteria and the decision was final.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>That contrasted with the polished, mature storytelling featured in the movie, which stars celebrated pundit Shelby Steele.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Amazon quickly backtracked following media attention on the issue, allowing \u201cWhat Killed Michael Brown?\u201d to be streamed on its service after all.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Amazon\u2019s penchant for removing content that defies progressive groupthink isn\u2019t relegated to movies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>More recently, Amazon removed a well-researched book critical of the current trans movement. Ryan Anderson\u2019s \u201cHow Harry Became Sally\u201d is no longer available, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncregister.com\/blog\/amazon-breaks-silence\"><span>according to Amazon<\/span><\/a><span>, because it \u201cframe[s] LGBTQ+ identity as a mental illness,\u201d a claim the author denies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Four Republican senators have dubbed Amazon\u2019s actions \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.deseret.com\/indepth\/2021\/3\/8\/22308119\/bill-clinton-helped-create-conservative-publishing-where-headed-josh-hawley-regnery-amazon-google\"><span>political censorship<\/span><\/a><span>\u201d in a letter to former Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Abigail Shrier, whose book \u201cIrreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters\u201d was removed from Target\u2019s digital shelves, offered a warning about the future given the current climate on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/abigailshrier.substack.com\/p\/book-banning-in-an-age-of-amazon\"><span>her Substack page<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cAs a direct result of Amazon\u2019s action, many outstanding books will now go unwritten; they will not be commissioned whenever Amazon\u2019s distribution is the slightest bit in doubt.
