She also \u201cexpressed frustration over the actions of some of Germany\u2019s state governors, including members of her own party, who have resisted tougher restrictions they had previously agreed to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Although Merkel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2018\/oct\/29\/angela-merkel-wont-seek-re-election-as-cdu-party-leader\">isn\u2019t running for re-election this fall<\/a>, she stated that she still plans to deliver vaccinations to every adult in Germany by the end of the summer, stating that the country is still doing well when juxtaposed with neighboring nations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a difficult situation,\u201d she said. \u201cBut look at our neighbors. With the exception of Denmark they are all grappling with the same problems, in part from a much more difficult position.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/covid-merkel-wants-german-states-to-do-more-to-curb-infections\/a-57034263\">Deutsche Welle<\/a> reported, however, that \u201c[Merkel] said Germany would not get \u2018any vaccine that is not produced in Europe.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The German broadcaster reported that Merkel referenced a rise in coronavirus cases in the nation, saying, \u201cWe have to break this third wave \u2026 We need action in the federal states. We need to take the appropriate measures very seriously. Some states are doing it, others are not yet doing it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Germany is a federal system and states are the deciders of how they will impose restrictions and curb the spread of the virus. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/covid-merkel-wants-german-states-to-do-more-to-curb-infections\/a-57034263\">outlet<\/a> reported that \u201cSaarland, for example, has decided to end its lockdown measures after Easter and reopen sports and entertainment venues.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the interview, Merkel also mentioned her recent decision to change course and not lockdown the country over the Easter holiday.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/angela-merkel-reverses-germany-easter-lockdown-decision-apologizes\">The Daily Wire<\/a> reported on Merkel\u2019s decision last week:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"14\">\n<p><em>German Chancellor Angela Merkel reversed an announcement made on Tuesday that included details of a decision about imposing a lockdown for five days over the Easter holiday.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The Associated Press reports that the original plan was to make Thursday of next week \u2014 the day before Good Friday \u2014 a \u201crest day.\u201d This would include all shops closing with only groceries allowed to open their doors on Easter Saturday. \u201cSince the Friday and Monday are already national holidays, that would have created a five-day shutdown of public life \u2014 on top of existing lockdown restrictions, which were extended through April 18,\u201d per the outlet.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Following backlash from the decision, Merkel announced that the lockdown would no longer happen and apologized for her actions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe idea of an Easter shutdown was drawn up with the best intentions, because we must urgently manage to slow and reverse the third wave of the pandemic,\u201d Merkel said. \u201cHowever, the idea \u2026 was a mistake \u2014 there were good reasons for it but it could not be implemented well enough in this short time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis mistake is my mistake alone, because in the end I bear ultimate responsibility for everything,\u201d she told the press. \u201cA mistake must be called a mistake, and above all it must be corrected \u2014 and if possible, that has to happen in time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the same time, of course I know that this whole matter triggers more uncertainty \u2014 I regret that deeply and I apologize to all citizens,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>AP reported that in the interview on Sunday, Merkel discussed German perfectionism. She pointed to the necessity of vaccination sites and doctors to have lists of people who can get vaccinated with leftover vaccine supplies at the end of the day as an example.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy Sunday, about 10.8\u200a% of the population had received a first dose of vaccine in Germany, a far smaller share than in Britain, the United States and Israel,\u201d the AP reported. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/impfdashboard.de\/\">Germany\u2019s official vaccine dashboard website<\/a>, 4.7% of the general population is fully vaccinated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPerhaps we\u2019re very perfectionist at times and want to do everything right, because obviously whoever makes a mistake always faces quite a lot of public criticism,\u201d Merkel said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut there needs to be flexibility, too,\u201d she added. \u201cThat, I believe, is an attribute that we as Germans perhaps need to learn a little bit more, alongside our tendency toward perfectionism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Merkel encouraged Germans, as well, saying, \u201cWe also need to voice a bit of courage and strength.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><i><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
