CNN Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta overlooked the Trump initiative and credited Fauci instead.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe life-saving and record-breaking vaccines that Dr. Fauci oversaw were a giant success for \u2018The Doctors\u2019 and for science and for the world,\u201d Gupta said in a voiceover for the special.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Deborah Birx, who, like Fauci, repeatedly clashed with Trump, also appeared on the program, and she blamed the former president the high death toll from COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI look at it this way. The first time we have an excuse,\u201d Birx said of the first surge of cases and deaths last spring. \u201cThere were about a hundred thousand deaths that came from that original surge. All of the rest of them, in my mind, could have been mitigated or decreased substantially.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Birx also complained about a \u201cvery uncomfortable\u201d phone call with Trump in August after she warned about the dangers of the virus. \u201c\u2018It was a CNN report in August that got horrible pushback,\u201d Brix said. \u201cThat was a very difficult time, because everybody in the White House was upset with that interview and the clarity that I brought about the epidemic,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI got called by the president,\u201d Birx said. \u201cIt was very uncomfortable, very direct and very difficult to hear.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Birx led the Trump administration\u2019s Coronavirus Task Force, but retired after reports emerged that she had hosted three generations of her family for Thanksgiving 2020, even though she had told Americans to restrict such gatherings to \u201cyour immediate household.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
