It\u2019s essentially a highly-chaperoned, highly-curated study tour,\u201d Metzl said. \u201cEverybody around the world is imagining this is some kind of full investigation. It\u2019s not. This group of experts only saw what the Chinese government wanted them to see.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe would have to ask the question, \u2018Well, why in Wuhan?\u2019 To quote Humphrey Bogart, \u2018Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, why Wuhan?\u2019 What Wuhan does have is China\u2019s level four virology institute, with probably the world\u2019s largest collection of bat viruses, including bat coronaviruses,\u201d Metzl continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile they were there they didn\u2019t demand access to the records and samples and key personnel,\u201d Metzl said. \u201cIt was agreed first that China would have veto power over who even got to be on the mission. \u2026 On top of that, the WHO agreed that in most instances China would do the primary investigation. And then just share its findings with these international experts. So these international experts weren\u2019t allowed to do their own primary investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"12.959183673469\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I\u2019m convinced Jamie Metzl will probably be the single most influential voice on this matter, if he isn\u2019t already.<\/p>\n<p>Not a fan of Donald Trump, nor his handling of the disaster, STILL ultra hawkish on the Wuhan lab. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/IBMCDKPugS\">pic.twitter.com\/IBMCDKPugS<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Geoffrey Ingersoll (@GPIngersoll) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GPIngersoll\/status\/1376374066089713666?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 29, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Metzl noted that if the animal-to-human theory is correct, then there likely would have been outbreaks in southern China where the bats that are believed to be carriers of the novel coronavirus\u2014or very similar coronaviruses\u2014were found in caves previous years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was a direct order from Beijing to destroy all viral samples and they didn\u2019t volunteer to share the genetic sequences,\u201d former Deputy National Security Adviser Matt Pottinger said. \u201cThere is a body of research that\u2019s been taking place conducted by the Chinese military in collaboration with the Wuhan Institute of Virology, which has not been acknowledged by the Chinese government. We\u2019ve seen the data.
