Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) said Democrats are making a \u201cshameful attempt\u201d to ruin the function of the Senate by seeking to eliminate the filibuster.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview on Sunday, Toomey noted how \u201cridiculous\u201d it is that two years ago Democrats universally supported the filibuster, but now it\u2019s apparently racist.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2392824\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2392824\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-2392824\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/fb_image-4122.jpeg\" alt=\"WASHINGTON, DC - JANUARY 30: Sen. (Photo by Drew Angerer\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>He noted the current gun control bills that passed the House wouldn\u2019t have 50 votes in the Senate even if the filibuster was gone. The Pennsylvania lawmaker said common ground can be found in background checks on commercial sales.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re not going to get to 60 votes with legislation that requires when a father wants to sell his gun to his son to have to get a background check, \u201d Toomey said. \u201cSo, I still think the best way to do this is focus on commercial sales.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Toomey famously supported bipartisan background check legislation that failed to pass the filibuster twice in 2013 and 2015.<\/p>\n<h4>MORE NEWS: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oann.com\/biden-silent-amid-threats-from-north-korea\/\">Biden Silent Amid Threats From North Korea<\/a><\/h4>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sen.
