Brian Kemp (R) signed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legis.ga.gov\/api\/legislation\/document\/20212022\/201121\">SB 202<\/a> into law, which is aimed at tackling a number of voting issues throughout the Peach State. He said the reforms will ensure secure, accessible and fair elections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter the November election last year, I knew like so many of you that significant reforms to our state elections were needed,\u201d he stated. \u201cThere\u2019s no doubt there were many alarming issues with how the election was handled and those problems, understandably, led to the crisis of confidence in the ballot box here in Georgia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The bill requires absentee voters to provide additional information when casting their ballot, including their driver\u2019s license and social security number.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirst and foremost, SB 202 replaces the signature match process with a state issued I.D. requirement to request and submit an absentee ballot,\u201d the governor explained. \u201cWhen voting in-person in the state of Georgia you must have a photo I.D., it only makes sense for the same standard to apply to absentee ballots as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">In Georgia, we now have:<br \/>\u2705 Required voter I.D. on all absentee ballots<br \/>\u2705 Increased oversight of local election boards which fail to follow state election law<br \/>\u2705 Quicker, more accurate results<br \/>\u2705 Secured drop boxes around the clock <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/4nfOzcaTLw\">https:\/\/t.co\/4nfOzcaTLw<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Governor Brian P. Kemp (@GovKemp) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovKemp\/status\/1375478279000428547?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 26, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Additionally, the legislation shortens the amount of time Georgians have to request an absentee ballot while limiting ballot drop boxes throughout the state. The bill also requires voters using an absentee ballot to provide a signature for additional verification.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy moving to a state issued the requirement instead of a signature match, Georgia will dramatically streamline the verification process on absentee ballots,\u201d said Kemp.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans said the voting reform bill will help increase voter confidence in the electoral process and expand voting access throughout the Peach State.
