Kemp <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gpb.org\/news\/2021\/03\/25\/kemp-signs-96-page-omnibus-elections-bill\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span> on Thursday. \u201cEnsuring the integrity of the ballot box isn\u2019t partisan, it\u2019s about protecting the very foundation of who we are as Georgians and Americans.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The key components of the bill aim to improve ballot security and standardize the variations which occurred across the state during the November elections, with \u201cbroad discretion allowed to local officials.\u201d In addition, instead of signature verification, Georgians who wish to cast their absentee-by-mail ballots will now be required to prove their identity in the form of a driver\u2019s license, state ID number, or other form of identification.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The response from Democrats involved two strategies. The first was to cherry pick one interpretation of Section 33 of the bill, which prevents anyone from soliciting votes or distributing campaign material, by arguing that Republicans are attempting to starve out prospective voters who are \u2014 apparently \u2014 unable to bring their own water with them or use any of the \u201cself-service\u201d water receptacles made available.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The second \u2014 and far more absurd \u2014 strategy is to fall back on the Democrats\u2019 favorite accusation: racism. In this case, claiming that the Election Integrity Act of 2021 is the \u201cnew Jim Crow.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Elizabeth Warren \u2014 while promoting the additional conspiracy theory that Stacey Abrams won Georgia\u2019s 2018 gubernatorial race, despite losing by over 50,000 votes \u2014 claimed that this \u201cdespicable voter suppression bill\u201d will \u201ctake Georgia back to Jim Crow.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Joy Reid, ever the voice of sanity and reason, also described the bill as \u201cGeorgia Jim Crow law\u201d aimed at \u201csuppressing Democratic votes.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Kamala Harris\u2019 niece also weighed in, calling the bill \u201cThe new Jim Crow, except that it\u2019s actually the old Jim Crow.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"6.3529411764706\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The new Jim Crow, except that it\u2019s actually the old Jim Crow. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/y8N6PhPgzd\">pic.twitter.com\/y8N6PhPgzd<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Meena Harris (@meenaharris) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/meenaharris\/status\/1375264012959539206?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 26, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>Given that it was the Democrats who imposed the <\/span><i><span>actual<\/span><\/i><span> Jim Crow laws upon black Americans throughout the Southern United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, you would think that they would have some understanding of what these rules involved.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Jim Crow laws mandated <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.history.com\/topics\/early-20th-century-us\/jim-crow-laws\"><span>complete racial segregation<\/span><\/a><span>, and \u201c<\/span><span>were meant to marginalize African Americans by denying them the right to vote, hold jobs, get an education or other opportunities.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cSegregated waiting rooms in bus and train stations were required, as well as water fountains, restrooms, building entrances, elevators, cemeteries, even amusement-park cashier windows.\u201d African Americans were forbidden from living in \u201cwhite neighborhoods,\u201d and \u201cSegregation was enforced for public pools, phone booths, hospitals, asylums, jails and residential homes for the elderly and handicapped.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Again, these rules were imposed by Democrats.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Today, Democrats are trying to repackage a relic of <\/span><i><span>their<\/span><\/i><span> racist history for their continued political gain by convincing Americans of all races that requiring all voters to show some form of identification when casting their ballot by mail \u2014 thereby <\/span><i><span>protecting<\/span><\/i><span> the validity of their vote \u2014 is akin to segregation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>To believe this ridiculous claim, you have to believe that black people are uniquely incapable of obtaining some form of identification.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Tell me again, who\u2019s the racist?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i>Ian Haworth is an Editor and Writer for The Daily Wire.
