CNN spokesman Matt Dornic suggested that the Cuomo seeking out help from his brother, Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, during the pandemic was \u201cnot surprising.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe generally do not get involved in the medical decisions of our employees,\u201d Dornic said. \u201cHowever, it is not surprising that in the earliest days of a once-in-a-century global pandemic, when Chris was showing symptoms and was concerned about possible spread, he turned to anyone he could for advice and assistance, as any human being would.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"6.5373134328358\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Statement from <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CNN?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@CNN<\/a> spokesman Matt Dornic on reports that <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ChrisCuomo?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@ChrisCuomo<\/a> got special coronavirus testing treatment from NYS officials. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/4h7fe0Eb6m\">pic.twitter.com\/4h7fe0Eb6m<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 ErikWemple (@ErikWemple) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ErikWemple\/status\/1374911559873540103?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 25, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>CNN\u2019s statement follows a Wednesday <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/cuomo-directed-officials-to-prioritize-his-family-including-cnns-chris-cuomo-for-coronavirus-testing-report\">report<\/a> that the New York governor used his authority to secure COVID-19 tests for members of his family and other influential people in the early days of the pandemic when tests were scarce. The governor\u2019s office denied the report.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s being a little bit distorted with like a devious intent. \u2026 We made sure to test people they believed were exposed,\u201d an official in the governor\u2019s office said. \u201cAll of this was being done in good faith in an effort to trace the virus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The reported special treatment the CNN anchor received from his brother raises more ethical questions about the network\u2019s decision to allow the New York governor on Chris\u2019s CNN program for notoriously softball interviews.<\/p>\n<p>Chris announced that he had tested positive for COVID-19 on March 31, about two weeks after New York began shutting down schools and businesses and in the early days of the pandemic when COVID tests were hard to come by. The CNN anchor said that he would continue doing his show from his basement for the period of his quarantine.<\/p>\n<p>A day prior to his diagnosis, Chris had had his brother on CNN to discuss the pandemic, then-President Donald Trump\u2019s response, and the possibility that the New York governor would run for president. The CNN anchor never addressed a recent order by the New York governor to bar nursing homes from rejecting hospitalized COVID patients on the basis of a positive test, which at the time was already drawing blowback from the nursing home industry and has since prompted an investigation into Gov. Cuomo\u2019s COVID-19 response.<\/p>\n<p>The New York governor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/cuomo-timeline-cnn\">continued to appear<\/a> on Chris\u2019s CNN show several more times throughout the pandemic, with his last appearance coming in June. At the end of a June 24 interview, Chris praised his brother\u2019s handling of the pandemic as controversy continued to grow around the New York governor\u2019s nursing home order.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m wowed by what you did. And, more importantly, I\u2019m wowed by how you did it. This was very hard. I know it\u2019s not over. But obviously, I love you as a brother,\u201d the CNN anchor said. \u201cObviously, I\u2019ll never be objective. Obviously, I think you\u2019re the best politician in the country. But I hope you feel good about what you did for your people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In January, New York Attorney General <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/nursing-home-deaths-in-new-york-were-massively-undercounted-new-york-ag-finds\">Letisha James<\/a> announced that deaths from COVID among nursing home residents may have been undercounted by as much as 50%.
