Early Thursday morning, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) said officers were assaulted with rocks , bottles and smoke bombs.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities declared an unlawful assembly and ordered people to clear the area. This came in response to hundreds of protesters gathering at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/Echo+Park+Lake,+Los+Angeles,+CA+90026\/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x80c2c704ea06de55:0x99d6c2e6b31188f4?sa=X&amp;ved=2ahUKEwjPt72UzcvvAhWToFsKHY1EDNoQ8gEwJ3oECDcQAQ\">Echo Park Lake<\/a> on Wednesday after city officials announced their intent to clear out a homeless encampment located inside the park.<\/p>\n<p>Protesters argued the city isn\u2019t doing enough to help the homeless community as officials struggle to place homeless individuals in various housing programs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, I think a lot of people want this city to be very pretty and a certain way\u2026I don\u2019t really agree with that,\u201d said protester Julian Cullars. \u201cI think they want to dump out all the people here so they can have their nice little park, but unfortunately we just have people in the city who need somewhere to stay and this is the spot.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">YALL ITS GOING DOWN IN ECHO PARK <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/T1zUDUoBkE\">pic.twitter.com\/T1zUDUoBkE<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 People&#8217;s City Council \u2013 Los Angeles (@PplsCityCouncil) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PplsCityCouncil\/status\/1374948253926531072?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 25, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Officials said they plan to carry out renovations and maintenance throughout the par, which are estimated to cost over half a million dollars.
