Washington County prosecutors sure took their sweet time about it, as it was nearly two months after the incident before the case was brought before a grand jury. Clayton Callahan was indicted on December 2nd.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegatewaypundit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Clayton-Callahan-Court-Record-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-562266\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thegatewaypundit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Clayton-Callahan-Court-Record-1-573x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"573\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegatewaypundit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Clayton-Callahan-Court-Record-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-562265\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thegatewaypundit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Clayton-Callahan-Court-Record-2-531x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"531\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegatewaypundit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Clayton-Callahan-Court-Record-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-562264\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thegatewaypundit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Clayton-Callahan-Court-Record-3-539x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"539\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Callahan is apparently a corrections deputy, and has since been put on leave:<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/twitter.com\/RealOWFT\/status\/1313543904990384128?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.koin.com\/news\/crime\/correctional-officer-allegedly-pulls-knife-on-trump-supporters\/\">KOIN6 had initially reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Janira Brannigan organized the caravan and the route through Hillsboro. She said the event took a dark turn when a man blocked the caravan with his car at an intersection and, at one point, got out of his car and charged her vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s coming with his hands up in the air,\u201d she said. \u201cWhile he\u2019s doing this, he\u2019s yelling and screaming and making some vulgar sexual gestures\u2014he grabs his crotch and is still yelling and screaming.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brannigan said she drove away but asked her friend to take a photo of the man\u2019s license plate. That\u2019s when the man reportedly got out of his car again\u2014this time with a knife.<\/p>\n<p>The Washington County Democratic Party said Callahan was a volunteer blogger for them but recently ended his work with the group.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHillsboro has a very large Hispanic community and I\u2019m Hispanic,\u201d said Brannigan. \u201cThere are a lot of President Trump supporters\u2014Hispanic President Trump supporters that fear they can\u2019t show their support because of people like Mr. Callahan.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtube.com\/watch?v=WM8_0oouOYU&#038;feature=oembed\">https:\/\/youtube.com\/watch?v=WM8_0oouOYU&amp;feature=oembed<\/a><\/p>\n<p>However, leave it to far left Maxine Bernstein of The Oregonian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oregonlive.com\/crime\/2020\/10\/she-led-a-pro-trump-caravan-he-had-a-biden-sticker-on-his-car-now-one-of-them-faces-a-weapons-charge.html\">to try to paint Callahan out to be the victim<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Clayton Callahan, the driver of the Subaru with a Biden bumper sticker on the back, says he was just trying to turn into a convenience store to get some picnic supplies.<\/p>\n<p id=\"BH75DY2UKNDQXCNI5M3MBBY4TA\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">Callahan is active in the Washington County Democratic Party.<\/p>\n<p id=\"R22NP5CVMZFHHKYQ2DF2VH4IIA\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">Brannigan is Polk County Republican Party chair.<\/p>\n<p id=\"K5P63CEFLNHAFC5N56BJ6QCPTI\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">The Oct. 4 encounter turned combustible with a widely shared video of Callahan holding a knife by his side while challenging a friend of Brannigan\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p id=\"EKVVACP25VAFPOVRTHF5PEHG5E\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">Callahan, 52, a state correctional officer, was arrested later that day at a family picnic and faces one count of unlawfully possessing a weapon. He has been placed on administrative leave, state officials confirmed. The county Democratic Party has distanced itself from Callahan.<\/p>\n<p id=\"FPI3Y3R76ZH4VOSYBPVEF7EU24\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">Brannigan posted the video on Facebook, writing, among other things, about the \u201cCrazy Biden psycho with a knife.\u201d She said she doesn\u2019t find Callahan\u2019s explanation credible.<\/p>\n<p id=\"OTTHPU7VLRECPGTWCLB3TA5TLI\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">Callahan said he\u2019s sorry he flipped off one of the caravan supporters outside a convenience store but otherwise was minding his own business until confronted and sought to protect himself. He said he plans to fight the allegation in court.<\/p>\n<p>Each remains convinced they were in the right.<\/p>\n<p id=\"FBO7GH5CXFGV7GYNJ7VPEN3WOI\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">Brannigan described the scene at the green light as the caravan was on Southeast 10th Avenue in Hillsboro.<\/p>\n<p id=\"RDTU5Z7CTVE3NE56NKQLFE6G3M\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">\u201cThe light turns green and he\u2019s at a complete stop,\u201d she told The Oregonian\/OregonLive. \u201cI\u2019m wondering what the heck and I see he\u2019s got a Biden sticker on his car. Oh, OK, he\u2019s trying to play funny with us trying to hold us up. I\u2019m honking. The light turns red and then green again. He\u2019s not moving at all, and I\u2019m honking and I\u2019m honking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"7XWSTHVL5BDQZJNLWJ4JFBG5HI\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">Her car had \u201cOregon Women for Trump\u201d signs on the side and American flags draped out the windows.<\/p>\n<p id=\"QZ4FCI6UAFBGFLPVHU2BAZN65I\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">\u201cHe knew exactly who he was targeting,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s very disheartening to have someone like that be so aggressive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Callahan said he inadvertently got mixed up in the middle of the car rally.<\/p>\n<p id=\"D4CCDJYSHRAJLPCR6XI7L6NMVA\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">Callahan estimated he was stopped for no more than 30 seconds before he turned into a Plaid Pantry to buy plastic utensils for a family picnic.<\/p>\n<p id=\"V76N4W3CNBHF3GQ2I2ZMRG2OPE\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">\u201cIt was only after I\u2019d parked and was walking into the store that I was even aware of a Trump parade as the man yelling insults at me in the parking lot was yelling about that, among other Trump-related things and his hatred of Democrats,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p id=\"BLU7MON7TVHJXJXDCTTGLIIVPE\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">He acknowledged and said he regrets that he flashed his middle finger at someone who was heckling him for his political leanings before he entered the store.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">A short time later, Callahan left the store and was back on the road but said some men stood in the street blocking his car. He said he emerged holding a knife in his right hand by his side.<\/p>\n<p id=\"JUQ7KASYT5BWPL6NX5XWA7NOJM\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">Brannigan said she remembers the encounter differently.<\/p>\n<p id=\"RT32WHW4FVCCXLGDVLGFRNABHA\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">She said Callahan, once parked at the Plaid Pantry, came up to the passenger side of her car \u201cyelling and screaming and making vulgar hand gestures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"A4KXVCHW2JGMJDENFLQUOKLVOE\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">She said she asked her friend to take a photo of Callahan\u2019s license plate. Wakefield approached Callahan\u2019s car after he had left the Plaid Pantry, she said.<\/p>\n<p id=\"XD3WAPL7BRAWHJLPG27N24PH4M\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">\u201cAs he\u2019s walking up to the vehicle, Clayton jumps out and is holding the knife,\u201d she said. \u201cWe\u2019ve had people yell and scream and try to run us off the road. But he came out of his car with a knife. What\u2019s really upsetting is he\u2019s a correction officer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"LPU26VMUDJF7VEU6SUCOJDTB7U\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">Callahan said he\u2019s eager to get back to work and believes his actions were \u201creasonable, appropriate and absolutely within the bounds of law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"BG32Z53C3ZEJDBRH7LRGZGABGA\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">\u201cMy sole focus once surrounded and trapped in the road was to stay alive and to get out of there as soon as I possibly could without being hurt,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>There seems to be a number of inconsistencies with Callahan\u2019s story that don\u2019t quite match up with the video evidence. Callahan claims he had pulled out of the Plaid Pantry convenience store, except his car is positioned before the parking lot of the store, indicating that he not yet gone into the store. He claims he was \u201ctrapped\u201d yet there doesn\u2019t seem to be anything in front of his car.
