A woman who identified herself to authorities as the suspect\u2019s sister-in-law reported that she tried to take the gun away just days before the shooting after she saw him \u201cplaying\u201d with what she said looked like a \u201cmachine gun\u201d and worried for the community\u2019s safety.<\/p>\n<p>Although authorities have yet to establish a motive for the shooting, the alleged gunman reportedly has a history of concerning run-ins with both family and friends and with law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/live\/2021\/03\/23\/us\/boulder-colorado-shooting\">New York Times reported Wednesday<\/a> that he was \u201cknown\u201d to the FBI \u201cbecause he was linked to another individual under investigation by the bureau, according to law enforcement officials.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Acquaintances of the alleged gunman also spoke to the media, describing him as having a \u201cshort fuse,\u201d and relating incidents from high school and college where the alleged shooter threatened classmates, sometimes with physical harm.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe got super mad and started throwing his headgear. He was saying, \u2018I\u2019m going to kill you guys\u2019 and walked out,\u201d one former wrestling teammate told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/health\/suspect-boulder-shooting\/2021\/03\/23\/4ec57954-8c0e-11eb-a730-1b4ed9656258_story.html\">the Washington Post<\/a>, about an incident involving the alleged gunman that followed a wrestling match.<\/p>\n<p>\u201d&nbsp;In November 2017, his senior year, the man&nbsp;accused of killing 10 people in a Boulder grocery store this week stood up in class and assaulted an unsuspecting student, pummeling him in the head and face for an alleged ethnic slur,\u201d the outlet noted. \u201cHe pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault and was sentenced to probation and community service.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The alleged gunman\u2019s family told authorities that he suffered from mental illness and bouts of paranoia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlissa\u2019s family described him as \u2018very anti-social,&#8217;\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/nation\/2021\/03\/23\/boulder-shooting-suspect-ahmad-al-aliwi-alissa-what-we-know\/6967680002\/\"> according to USA Today<\/a>, adding that he was \u201cparanoid and would say people were after him when he was a high school student.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe didn\u2019t know what was going on in his head,\u201d the shooter\u2019s brother told the Daily Beast, suggesting that his brother may have opened fire on shoppers because he had been \u201cbullied\u201d in high school.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[It was] not at all a political statement, it\u2019s mental illness,\u201d his brother told the outlet. \u201cThe guy used to get bullied a lot in high school, he was like an outgoing kid but after he went to high school and got bullied a lot, he started becoming anti-social.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More information is expected to emerge on Wednesday, as authorities speak with the suspect for the first time.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
