The Hill <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/regulation\/court-battles\/544399-sidney-powell-seeks-dismissal-of-dominions-13b-suit\">noted<\/a> that Powell argued through her own legal team that the case should be dismissed because they claim it was filed in the wrong jurisdiction and her claims were protected by the First Amendment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026no reasonable person would conclude that the statements were truly statements of fact,\u201d her legal team <a href=\"https:\/\/assets.documentcloud.org\/documents\/20519858\/3-22-21-sidney-powell-defending-the-republic-motion-to-dismiss-dominion.pdf\">said<\/a> in court documents, later adding, \u201creasonable people would not accept such statements as fact but view them only as claims that await testing by the courts through the adversary process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The court filing continued:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"13\">\n<p><em>All the allegedly defamatory statements attributed to Defendants were made as part of the normal process of litigating issues of momentous significance and immense public interest. The statements were tightly focused on the legal theories they were advancing in litigation and the evidence they had presented, or were going to present, to the courts in support of their claims that the presidential election was stolen, denying millions of Americans their constitutional rights to \u201cone person, one vote\u201d by deliberately mis-counting ballots, diminishing the weight of certain ballots while enhancing the weight of others and otherwise manipulating the vote tabulation process to achieve a pre-determined result.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Lawyers who fought to overturn the 2020 presidential election lost or dropped all but one case out of roughly 60 that were filed. Then-Attorney General William Barr, a favorite in Trump world, had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-ag-barr-authorizes-federal-prosecutors-to-pursue-substantial-allegations-of-voting-irregularities-report-says\">authorized<\/a> U.S. attorneys to investigate legitimate claims of election fraud after the election and later concluded that there was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/bill-barr-no-evidence-of-widespread-voter-fraud\">no evidence of widespread voter fraud<\/a> that would have altered the outcome of the election.<\/p>\n<p>Barr later <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/its-just-bulls-ag-william-barr-warned-trump-his-legal-team-was-lying-to-him-report-says\">warned<\/a> President Donald Trump that those who were advising him that the election had been stolen through fraud were lying to him.<\/p>\n<p>Axios&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/trump-barr-relationship-off-the-rails-b33b3788-e7e9-47fa-84c5-3a0016559eb5.html\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"18\">\n<p><em>\u201cThese things aren\u2019t panning out,\u201d&nbsp;Barr told the president, standing beside his chief of staff Will Levi. \u201cThe stuff that these people are filling your ear with just isn\u2019t true.\u201d Barr explained that if Trump wanted to contest the election results, the president\u2019s internal campaign lawyers would have to do it.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The Justice Department, he continued, had looked at the major fraud allegations that Trump\u2019s lawyers had leveled. \u201cIt\u2019s just bulls**t,\u201d Barr told the president. [White House counsel Pat] Cipollone backed up Barr by saying the DOJ was investigating these claims.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Barr also reportedly warned Trump that his legal team was \u201cclownish.\u201d \u201cI\u2019m a pretty informed legal observer and I can\u2019t f***ing figure out what the theory is here,\u201d Barr reportedly said in reference to the claims that Trump\u2019s legal team were making. \u201cIt\u2019s just scattershot.
