Ted Cruz (R-Texas) knocked Democrats for weaponizing mass shooting incidents to pass new gun control laws. During Tuesday\u2019s Senate Judiciary Committee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c-span.org\/video\/?510147-1\/senate-judiciary-committee-holds-hearing-reducing-gun-violence&amp;live&amp;vod\">hearing<\/a> on gun violence and the House background check bill, Cruz defended the GOP from Democrats who claim \u201cthe right\u2019s only plan to combat gun violence is to \u2018do nothing.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat happens in this committee after every mass shooting is Democrats propose taking away guns from law-abiding citizens,\u201d Cruz noted.<\/p>\n<p>The Texas senator referenced his joint bill with Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), which was originally drafted in 2013. The joint bill is designed to preserve Second Amendment rights while keeping guns out of the hands of violent criminals.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Sen.
