I made an assumption based on his being taken into custody alive and the fact that the majority of mass shootings in the U.S. are carried out by white men.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Meena Harris (@meenaharris) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/meenaharris\/status\/1374390208074895364?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 23, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Because Twitter is a paragon of productive discourse, the replies to Harris&#8217;s tweet were a mixture of angry critics calling her a racist, angry supporters insisting that she had done nothing wrong, and angry race experts explaining that the suspect was actually a &#8220;White Arab.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In any event, Harris&#8217;s rush to judgment was in keeping with a proud family tradition. Here is what then-senator Kamala Harris (D., Calif.) tweeted in 2019 after the alleged &#8220;attack&#8221; on the now-disgraced actor Jussie Smollett:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JussieSmollett?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@JussieSmollett<\/a> is one of the kindest, most gentle human beings I know. I\u2019m praying for his quick recovery. <\/p>\n<p>This was an attempted modern day lynching. No one should have to fear for their life because of their sexuality or color of their skin. It is now widely <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2019\/02\/16\/entertainment\/jussie-smollett-attack\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">believed<\/a> that Smollett paid two men to commit a fake hate crime. The vice president was <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/politics\/the-medias-credulous-response-to-the-jussie-smollett-case\/\">not alone<\/a> in her rush to believe that &#8220;an attempted modern day lynching&#8221; had occurred on the streets of Chicago.<\/p>\n<p>Smollett was eventually charged with disorderly conduct and filing a false police report, but those charges were mysteriously <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/politics\/warren-endorses-prosecutor-who-dropped-charges-against-jussie-smollett-for-fake-hate-crime\/\">dropped<\/a> after Michelle Obama&#8217;s former chief of staff reached out to Cook County state&#8217;s attorney Kim Foxx (D.).
