But now it has escalated to a new level: using their taxpayer-funded budgets to shape the views of adults who live nearby.<\/p>\n<p>For example, in Pennsylvania, Seria Chatters, Director of Equity and Inclusivity for the State College Area School District, wrote to parents to have them \u201clearn more about race and racism\u2026 through the Parent and Community Book Club!\u201d The book club would not be for cultivating a love of literature; rather, the choices were \u201cWhite Fragility\u201d by Robin DiAngelo, \u201cBetween the World and Me\u201d by Ta-Nehisi Coates, \u201cEveryDay AntiRacism,\u201d edited by Mica Pollack, and \u201cRace Talk and the Conspiracy of Silence\u201d by Derald Wing Sue.<\/p>\n<p>Even more surprising, it is often the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), a group that seemingly represents parents\u2019 interests, that has instead taken to gathering adults so they can be influenced by the growing mass of school race or \u201cequity\u201d departments.<\/p>\n<p>In Pinellas County, Florida, diversity honchos are subjecting parents of elementary school students to optional anti-racist training. The recurring event \u201cLet\u2019s Talk About Race: An educational series for North Shore families, friends, and teachers,\u201d is \u201ca training series hosted by the North Shore Elementary PTA about race and racism [and] how it affects almost every aspect of American life,\u201d according to materials obtained by The Daily Wire.<\/p>\n<p>Although the series is \u201chosted\u201d by the school\u2019s PTA, it originated from an ideological school system office that was seeking to operate on parents, and is \u201cco-sponsored\u201d by the school system\u2019s Equity Professional Development Department. Teachers can attend the same training in order to meet continuing education requirements.<\/p>\n<p>The training is conducted by Community Tampa Bay, an activist group that is funded by the school system and runs an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.communitytampabay.org\/advocacy-academy-about\">\u201cAdvocacy Academy.\u201d<\/a> Community Tampa Bay\u2019s work with the school system includes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.communitytampabay.org\/pinellas-county-schools\">\u201ccultural humility\u201d training<\/a>, three-day long sessions for teachers, and \u201call-day empowerment experiences\u201d for students.<\/p>\n<p>For the 2016-17 schoolyear, the Pinellas schools paid Community Tampa Bay $212,000, according to a contract obtained by The Daily Wire, in part for \u201ccultural competence training\u201d for \u201cschool leaders, educators, parents, students and community stakeholders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The PTA sessions are led by Samira Obeid, Community Tampa Bay\u2019s program director. On her LinkedIn profile, Obeid describes herself as \u201ca masculine performing, Indian lesbian raised Hindu on my mother\u2019s side and Muslim on my father\u2019s side. My identities and lived experience not only make up who I am but inform what I do. I moved to the U.S. in 2007 where I earned my second and third master\u2019s degrees in Multimedia Journalism and Gender Studies, respectively.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/loudoun-teachers-target-parents-critical-race-theory-hacking\">Teachers Compile List Of Parents Who Question Racial Curriculum, Plot War On Them<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The ideas being promoted are not merely to be kind to everyone and not to discriminate. Instead, schools are pushing bizarre and controversial views about race.<\/p>\n<p>One Pinellas training material given to teachers and obtained by The Daily Wire suggests that employees should expect minorities to be late for appointments. \u201cFamilies of culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) background may value punctuality differently than mainstream cultures,\u201d it says.<\/p>\n<p>A \u201cCivics Equity Lesson\u201d for middle schoolers in the district asks \u201cHow do laws create a system of inequality?\u201d It has the teacher \u201cproject the definition of systemic inequality \u2014 unequal outcomes built into our institutions, like schools, that will produce inequality.\u201d Then it asks students, \u201cIs equal fair?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It is apparently important to educators that parents hold similar beliefs.<\/p>\n<p>Across the country, some parents argue that the PTA has become not so much a group advancing its members\u2019 interests but rather one operating as an adjunct of schools and seeking to change the views of its members.<\/p>\n<p>In Wake County, North Carolina, the PTA Council\u2019s office is located at the school system\u2019s headquarters complex.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, the Wake PTA Council held a conference for parents on topics such as <a href=\"https:\/\/ladyliberty1885.com\/2021\/03\/13\/wake-county-pta-council-holding-diversity-and-equity-inclusion-conference\/\">\u201cTransgender 101,\u201d<\/a> \u201cBecoming an LGBTQ+ Youth Ally,\u201d and \u201chow to embrace diversity equity and inclusion through cultural competencies,\u201d journalist A.P. Dillon reported.<\/p>\n<p>The keynote speaker at the \u201cDiversity and Equity Inclusion Conference\u201d was the past president of the organization, who has also run trainings for Raleigh Organizing Against Racism and served as chair of a National PTA committee.<\/p>\n<p>PTA dues fund such events. The North Carolina statewide PTA organization had nearly $500,000 in assets in the year ending June 2019. It spent more than $137,000 on conferences and $20,000 on lobbying that year, but gave out only $12,500 in grants, Dillon reported.<\/p>\n<p>These groups appear to be following cues from their parent organization, the National PTA.<\/p>\n<p>In December, the National PTA wrote to then-president elect Joe Biden\u2019s transition team letting him know that \u201cNational PTA has engaged in, and is committed to, deep, program-wide work and advocating on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) for parents and students alike. We fully embrace this belief and the work of over 22,000 PTAs around the country reflects the importance of equity both inside and outside the classroom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNational PTA believes that it is our duty to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pta.org\/home\/advocacy\/ptas-positions\/Individual-Position-Statements\/position-statement---addressing-systemic-or-institutional-racism\">disrupt<\/a> the systems that propagate institutional racism. We call upon our PTA members to listen, educate and advocate to demand meaningful change to end institutional racism. Our efforts must be intentional, purposeful and relentless,\u201d it says.<\/p>\n<p>The National PTA says \u201cRace and bias affects everyone\u201d and encourages parents to read an article called \u201cYour <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/www.pta.org\/docs\/default-source\/default-document-library\/how-to-talk-about-race-justice-in-americaaa2a48f1aa3e63899f67ff00009b2bd9.pdf\">5-Year Old Is Already Racially Biased<\/a>, Here\u2019s What You Can Do About It.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Are parents asking the PTA to accuse their young children of racism?<\/p>\n<p>Elena Fishbein, a former social worker who is now president of a parents\u2019 education advocacy group called <a href=\"https:\/\/noleftturn.us\/\">No Left Turn in Education<\/a>, says the PTA is encouraging activity from which most parents would want to protect their children.<\/p>\n<p>Fishbein told The Daily Wire that she has seen \u201cequity\u201d lesson plans in which teachers are told to expect that kids will feel sad, helpless and traumatized because of what they hear. She said she has spoken to parents whose children did have such reactions, and likened it to the abuse and trauma she saw as a social worker.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe emotional abuse that kids of all colors undergo hearing constant talk of oppression in nearly every class \u2014 what kind of emotion does that stir among kids? What kind of relationship do you think any kid identified by the color of their skin can have with someone else?\u201d she asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s shoved on them by the schools.
