To those who might say, cut them some slack \u2014 they are dealing with a situation, I\u2019d say that showing the US response to the current immigrant surge is exactly the media\u2019s role,\u201d Moore continued, adding that \u201cPhotographing Border Patrol agents and immigrant encounters can and has been done respectfully without interfering with operations,\u201d and that \u201cTransparency is key, even in a politicized environment.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe vast majority of river crossings by asylum seekers happen on federal land in south Texas\u2019 Rio Grande Valley. However, it seems that the ongoing situation at the border is proving that promise to be nothing but empty words. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>When <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/03\/20\/media\/biden-border-transparency\/index.html\">questioned<\/a> by CNN\u2019s Oliver Darcy about the \u201clack of access at the border,\u201d Psaki referred to comments she made earlier in the week, and that media tours of the facilities were not permitted due to COVID-19 restrictions. According to Darcy, she then noted that the Biden administration remains \u201ccommitted to transparency, and we\u2019re considering potential options, and we hope to have an update on that soon.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Here is a list of other media outlets who are now voicing their frustration with the media blackout imposed by the Biden administration.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/view.newsletters.cnn.com\/messages\/16162086232564fec8af80afe\/raw?utm_term=16162086232564fec8af80afe&amp;utm_source=cnn_Reliable+Sources+-+March+19+2021&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=1616208623257&amp;bt_ee=WVCdEmHas%2BgR7OQgNTfQ3GPhrhxgWUbVIVf3WfngjISM%2Fi%2B2QtNOePURJVjT1yk3&amp;bt_ts=1616208623257\"><b>CNN<\/b><\/a><b> \u2014 \u201cBiden\u2019s Border Blackout\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>In a \u201cReliable Sources\u201d newsletter from Brian Stelter and Oliver Darcy, a section on the border crisis read, \u201cDHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas traveled to the border on Friday with a group of bipartisan senators. Typically, when a cabinet secretary and lawmakers make such a trip, they would be accompanied by members of the press or a pooler to feed back notes to newsrooms.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cBut the Biden administration blocked that from happening. It\u2019s part of a larger pattern at the southern border of restricted media access \u2014 despite promises of transparency and the fact that there are at least 14,000 migrant children detained as the US sees a surge in migrants attempting to enter the country\u2026\u201d the section concluded.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2021\/03\/19\/news-orgs-cite-biden-administration-opacity-border-stories\/\"><b>Washington Post<\/b><\/a><b> \u2014 \u201cNews orgs cite Biden administration opacity on border stories\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>In an opinion column, Erik Wemple wrote that \u201c<\/span><span>Rafael Carranza, immigration issues reporter for the Arizona Republic, says that Border Patrol officials in Arizona have always been \u2018tight-lipped,\u2019 especially in the Tucson sector. \u2018But I\u2019ve noticed that more so in recent weeks in Yuma, which is our state\u2019s hotspot for border activity at the moment,\u2019 Carranza told the Erik Wemple Blog via email.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201c<\/span><span>Asked by Fox News reporter Kristin Fisher whether the White House or DHS was instructing border agents to deny ride-along requests, Psaki said, \u2018I think we\u2019ve seen, watching a number of the reports you all do, a number of Border Patrol officials who are quoted in them, who appear in them, and certainly in the White House we support that.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cOfficials are quoted! Well, then why complain? Because solid coverage of the border requires more than just a quote here and there,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/immigration\/biden-administration-limits-what-border-patrol-can-share-media-about-n1261133\"><b>NBC News<\/b><\/a><b> \u2014 \u201cBiden administration limits what Border Patrol can share with media about migrant surge at border\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe <\/span><span>Biden administration<\/span><span> is restricting the information Border Patrol agents and sector chiefs can share with the media as <\/span><span>a surge of migrants<\/span><span> tests the agency\u2019s capacity at the southern border, according to four current and two former Customs and Border Protection officials,\u201d the report by NBC News reads.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe officials say the restrictions are seen as an unofficial \u2018gag order\u2019 and are often referred to that way among colleagues. The officials requested anonymity because they are not authorized to speak to the media about the topic,\u201d the report added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/border-crisis-media-access-facilities-biden-administration\/\">CBS News<\/a> \u2014 \u201cLawmakers press Biden administration to grant media access to border facilities\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cA growing chorus of lawmakers from both sides of the aisle have called on the Biden administration to allow reporters and journalists into facilities housing unaccompanied migrant children who have sought asylum at the U.S.-Mexico border,\u201d the report said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe appeal for greater transparency with the American public and those who cover it comes as the U.S. faces a growing humanitarian crisis at its southwest border, driven by Central America\u2019s economic devastation, climate change, gang violence and political persecution, as well as a new presidential administration,\u201d CBS News added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/news\/2021\/03\/bidens-border-press-blackout-is-making-his-immigration-problem-worse\"><b>Vanity Fair<\/b><\/a><b> \u2014 \u201cBiden\u2019s Border Press Blackout Is Making His Immigration Problem Worse\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>On Sunday, Charlotte Klein wrote for Vanity Fair that \u201cJournalists and lawmakers across the aisle are increasingly calling out the Biden administration for a lack of press access at border processing centers, a media blackout preventing reporters from covering what the White House has refused to call a crisis, despite firsthand accounts suggesting otherwise.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/opinion\/immigration\/544225-theres-a-five-alarm-crisis-on-the-border-and-team-biden-imposes-a-media\"><b>The Hill<\/b><\/a><b> \u2014 \u201cThere\u2019s a five-alarm crisis on the border \u2013 and Team Biden imposes a media blackout\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>In a recent opinion piece in The Hill, Joe Concha wrote that \u201cToday, two months and zero solo press conferences later, the Biden administration is on track to be the least transparent administration in the TV era.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cAnother example of shutting out the press is underway at the U.S.-Mexico border, where said administration has imposed a media blackout on its migrant holding facilities, formerly known as \u2018kids in cages\u2019 under the previous administration before the term apparently was retired by most of the media and by Democratic politicians out of courtesy to Team Biden,\u201d Concha added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span>Ian Haworth is an Editor and Writer for The Daily Wire.
