On Friday, GOP Governor Kristi Noem <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/state-watch\/544241-kristi-noem-rejects-signing-transgender-sports-bill\">declined <\/a>to sign a bill, which would ban transgender girls from participating in girl\u2019s high school sports.<\/p>\n<p>She said she sent the bill back for lawmakers to make changes. Noem added, it should not apply to collegiate athletics because it would conflict with college athletic associations and their rules.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I believe that boys should play boys\u2019 sports, and girls should play girls\u2019 sports. She said she believes boys should play boys\u2019 sports and girls should play girls\u2019 sports, but she was concerned about the vague language used, especially in regard to performance-enhancing drugs.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I am also concerned that the approach House Bill 1217 takes is unrealistic in the context of collegiate athletics. Rhonda Milstead (R-S.D.), who said \u201clegislators are the ones who make the laws and governors sign them.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The proposed revisions limit HB 1217 to elementary and secondary school athletics, which are primarily conducted among South Dakota schools and at the high school level are governed by the South Dakota High School Activities Association, a creature of South Dakota law.
