So he needs to be corrected.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a piece of content this week for the Post, Thiessen accused Vice President J.D. Citing internal GOP campaign data, he said the Republican electoral wipe-out was the result of the unpopular Iran war: \u201cThe reason we lost is the war.\u201d He said the president himself had said so, which is true. And when Trump was asked to react to Vance\u2019s tweet, he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pix11news\/videos\/president-donald-trump-says-its-largely-true-that-the-iran-war-played-a-major-ro\/1633136651115673\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pix11news\/videos\/president-donald-trump-says-its-largely-true-that-the-iran-war-played-a-major-ro\/1633136651115673\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> it was \u201clargely true.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s a wonder then that Thiessen claimed in his piece of content that Vance was \u201cpublicly disagreeing\u201d with the president. He hadn\u2019t. He simply acknowledged reality. When critics acknowledge the reality of neoconism and say it\u2019s bad, neocons accuse them of lying and bigotry. When supporters acknowledge the same reality of neoconism and say it\u2019s good, neocons thank them for being honest patriots. If Vance had said the war did hurt Republicans, but that it was worth the cost, Thiessen would have had no problem. But because Vance is well known to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/trump-says-vance-maybe-less-enthusiastic-about-iran-11650385\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/trump-says-vance-maybe-less-enthusiastic-about-iran-11650385\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ambivalent<\/a> toward the war, Thiessen is in a rage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He even imagined what he would have liked Vance to say. \u201cPresident Trump did the right thing, and I support him 100 percent,\u201d Thiessen said, conjuring up a J.D. Vance who doesn\u2019t exist. \u201cIran has been at war with us for 47 years, and Trump is the first president to fight back. It was the most courageous decision any president has made in my lifetime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And I thought Pam Bondi was a clownish brown-noser.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the man who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2026\/01\/14\/iran-regime-protest-trump-strike\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2026\/01\/14\/iran-regime-protest-trump-strike\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a> before the war that there would be \u201cno \u2026 downside to striking\u201d Iran. Of course he\u2019s mad at anyone who would see the downsides, like Republicans losing control of the House, the Senate, several governorships, and state legislatures. Or, as Marc Thiessen might call that, small potatoes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Like Vance said in his tweet, an honest person can insist the war is worth whatever price Trump or Republicans have to pay in electoral defeat. They surely believe it. But we\u2019re not talking about an honest person.
