In a post-election analysis on X, Vance argued the problem wasn\u2019t turnout but that many 2024 Trump\/Vance supporters defected to Democrats in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats picked up seven Senate seats &#8211; in Iowa, Kansas, Maine, north Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, and Texas &#8211; with Alaska and Mississippi still too close to call. The party is also projected to hold nearly 260 seats in the House, though some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-key-midterm-races-left-outstanding\/\" title=\"The Key Midterm Races Left Outstanding\">races remain unresolved<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Vance said a pollster told him former Trump voters who where switching to Democrats said they would only return to the GOP if the iran war ended, the management prioritized cost-of-living and inflation issues, adopted a \u201cput America First\u201d approach, and altered the U.S. relationship with Israel. He warned that anyone promising amnesty was misleading voters and reiterated that the war was the primary reason for the losses.<\/p>\n<p>Exit polls from NBC showed only about a quarter of voters considered the war a minor or negligible factor,and 63% said the Trump administration\u2019s military action against Iran was the wrong decision; among those who felt it was wrong,82% voted Democratic while 16% voted Republican.<\/p>\n<p>Economic concerns tied to the war also influenced voters. Gallup and pew polls indicated the economy and gas prices were top issues. The conflict disrupted shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, contributing to a roughly 43% jump in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gas-prices-reach-6-year-high-amid-shortages\/\" title=\"... Vance <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JDVance\/status\/2118004988433641835?a=Yy0mK93Zs1gsaQ3XdmI&#038;s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> in a post-mortem of the midterm results in an X post on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Democrats <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/projects\/elections-2026\/us-senate-results\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">flipped<\/a> seven Senate seats in Iowa, Kansas, Maine, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, and Texas. Both Alaska and Mississippi Senate races remain uncalled, though Democrats currently hold razor-thin advantages. Democrats are projected to have nearly 260 House seats, though many races have yet to be finalized.<\/p>\n<div id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-2846020392\" class=\"d-flex justify-content-center fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 fdrlst__b89e9-entity-placement\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe main problem is not turnout. The main problem is that many people who voted for Trump\/Vance in 2024 voted for Democrats in 2026,\u201d Vance <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JDVance\/status\/2118004988433641835?a=yWlcQhPfXD62UlnzpRA&#038;s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>. \u201cThe real reason we lost is obvious to almost everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One pollster told Vance that voters who supported Trump in 2024 but were planning to vote for Democrats in Tuesday\u2019s elections said the only thing that would cause them to return to the Republican Party is if the war in Iran is ended and the administration focused on the cost of living and inflation, \u201cput America First\u201d and \u201cchange[d] our relationship to Israel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAnyone pushing amnesty is lying to you,\u201d Vance said. \u201cThe reason we lost is the war. The president himself said so last night.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Voters said it too. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/11\/03\/exit-poll-iran-war-was-crucial-or-major-factor-for-3-in-4-voters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NBC exit polls <\/a>showed that just 26 percent of voters  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2026-elections\/exit-polls\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> the war was a \u201cminor factor or not a factor.\u201d When asked whether the Trump administration made the right decision or wrong decision on military action against Iran, 63 percent of voters said it was the \u201cwrong decision.\u201d Of these voters 82 percent voted Democrat and 16 percent who voted Republican.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The economic fallout from the war was also a top concern for voters. An October Gallup <a href=\"https:\/\/news.gallup.com\/poll\/716333\/issues-voters-say-matter-midterm.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">poll<\/a> found that gas prices were a top concern for 42 percent of voters, while a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/chart\/republican-and-democratic-voters-rate-economy-as-top-voting-issue-in-midterms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pew Research<\/a> poll found the economy was a top voting issue for both Republicans and Democrats.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Iran war disrupted shipping flow in the Strait of Hormuz, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanprogress.org\/article\/fact-sheet-costs-of-the-iran-war\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">spiked gas prices<\/a>. The pre-war national average was roughly $2.98 per gallon, and by October it had spiked roughly 43 percent to $4.27 per gallon. Diesel rose roughly 68 percent. The war also contributed to rising grocery prices due to the increase in costs incurred by farmers and ranchers, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanprogress.org\/article\/fact-sheet-costs-of-the-iran-war\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Center for American Progress<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vance questioned whether the war was worth \u201closing the Senate for the next 6 years\u201d and said that ultimately, \u201ceveryone knows why we lost.
